I recently bought a H22a throught H-motors. I am wondering if there is a way to visually determine whether the motor is jdm or usdm and if it is 92-96 or 97-01. I was under the understanding that it was in fact 92-95 jdm vtec. I know its vtec, but I wanted to be sure it was 92-95 jdm. Can I reference the number on the block? I also want to know if I have the right tranny. Auto tranny in it, code is MP1A. Is this the right tranny for an h22a? Whats the difference b/w this and tranny for f22 or is there a difference?

yea if is a obd1 its 1993-1996 97+ will be obd2

How do I tell if it is obd1 or 2 if I dont know the year for certain? The motor is already in.

Also the tranny is shifting pretty hard at low speeds, is this just the nature of this tranny (MP1A) with the torque of the h22a or might I have a loose motor mount, or worse a bad tranny? When I am slowing down it drops gears at about 5-7 mph and it is a pretty hard shift. When accelerating quickly it is nice, but going up the gears more slowly the shifts feel like a bad shift with a manual tranny.

Sounds like a bad trans to me, had the same thing happen in an older car i had and after about a month of 2 hr drive to work and 2 hr return trip i lost 4&5th about 45 mins into the drive home one day. . . drain your tranny fluid and look for impurity's maybe? i figure its cheap and once u rule out the tranny being bad you can stop sweating for a little bit

I just replaced the trans. fluid and it looked ok. Im thinking is a bad tranny. What I am looking at to convert to manual? What tranny etc.

I looked at the tran specs page. Is it worth the money to get the lsd if the car is not going to have crazy hp/torque. Will not be racing, just a daily driver.

Will I have change or adjust anything other than the tranny itself and running the pedal?

Im still not sure whether it is 92-96 H22A or 97+ H22A so I dont know whether to use M2B4 or M2Y4. I dont know because I was told it was to be a 92-95 H22A when I purchased the motor, but after the motor was installed I am getting an engine code that says ABS not found (or something like that). 92-96 didnt have ABS, right? So is it possible I got a 97+ H22A.

H22A4 Honda Prelude (USDM) 1997-2001

I put 2 in bold because u said earlier that it def just said h22 right ? no a or any letter number combinaition after the h22 right ? the 3 in bold are just the h22a, but all are 97+

and as far as LSD >. . i have no idea i haven't had the time or patientence to read about it lol, just working on building my new h22 block

on the head there are things that look like clocks and those will tell you the year and month etc

there is a stamping in 3 separate circles like in a clock style with arrows pointing to day, month, year. for manufact date, cant member where i saw it tho, im sure someone remembers

you can also tell by the dizzy, on the obd1 h22a you could adjust the timing (the holes for the dizzy are oval) and the obd2 h22a the timing is set, you cant adjust it... which kinda sucks

Yea, I noticed that on my obd2 h22, We went to mess with the timing and found that only two of the holes were oval, so we couldn't adjust it. Any idea why that is?
