hey i have a question. i got in touch with a person who wants to sell a b18c1 engine but it has only one problem and im wondering how fixable it is here is his story

"I have a b18a1 out of my integra for sale. I bought the car from a guy a couple weeks ago, he told me the engine was swapped in, with 94.5k on it. Then he put on 4k to bring it to 98,500 miles. He told me the top end was rebuilt with OEM stuff, It appears to be so because the guy who did it used the instant orange gasketstuff....

As for the motor, it pulls hard and it ran nicely. Only problem is that it has a high idle at 2,700."

so yea...my question is is that hard to fix? hes selling it for a good price and im really interested in it...any imput would be tight thanks

Edit: P.s. do you think this is a good deal or a safe bet to buy this off the guy? he is selling for about 600ish+shipping

i don't know about that one...sounds like he's got the idle way out of adjustment. try and see if you can't dink with the idle control screw. maybe you can bring it down that way. if not, possible vaccuum leak or bad idle control valve. does the idle increase and decrease on its own?

i dont really know for sure if its constant or if the idle moves around but he said he was able to drive it for a while so its probably just a consistant 2700. so this probably isnt too big of a problem? i just wanna make sure im not gunna screw myself with a problem i cant handle if i buy it (he lives in about 5 states away so i cant check it out).

yep.. sounds like it has a leak somewhere... you can spray carb cleaner around the base of the manifold and anything attached to it or the throttle body.. if it starts to die out .. thats where your leak is..

if i find a leak in the manifold or TB how would i fix it? should i just replace it? not to sound like a retard or anything ive just never had this sort of problem before

it depends.. .. some things are easily tightened down too much.. ie: IACV, FITV.. .. doing that smashing the rubber seals they use.. it may be as easy as that.. or a tear in a vacuum line, which would need to be cut down past the tear.. or at the most , you would need to reapply the intake manifold and replace the gasket or throttle body gasket

all pretty simple things to do, the price of gaskets and what not..

most likely, when he did the swap he put a vacuum line in the incorrect spot, or missed one, or one could be torn.

welcome to one of the largest nightmares on honda motors.

ok thanks for the info...i just realized that the swap he was selling was a b18a1 not c1 so i decided im not interested in it (ive been on the look out for a good deal on a b16 or somthing in that power range) but im sure the info will help out sombody else (maybe even me) in the future

there's nothing wrong with the b18a. it just doesn't have a block girdle so you can't really go high RPMs with it. toss a b16 head on it and you've got an LS vtec and they can make plenty of power. actually that's what i am building myself.

i say its a vacuum leak as well...its something youll have to investigate, and its not something id want to do unless im getting the car for < $1,000.

look on the bright side, this isnt a 1st gen crx, so the vacuum lines should be pretty manageable (anyone whos seen the engine bay of a carbed civic knows what i mean).

it could be a handfull of things. dont think its a vacum leak if it was u would feel more then just a high rpm. lag on take off, bad gas milage etc. aswell u would hear it hissing like crazy. take a propane can and CAREFULLY spray it in areas where u think the leak is. if its there u will hear rpm go much higher.

i tend to agree, but chem tool is safer.
