okay i have a 91 hatchback.. im doing ls/vtec so i was just wondering if this is going to be reliable. im pretty sure its going to be.... i have a b18a1 block and a b16a head... the head is going to be stock for now.... but the bottom end is going to have pr3 pistons (b16a) arp rod bolts, main cap bolts and head bolts... and for bearings im using all honda so i think i should be okay there.... and a stage 2 clutch and lighten flywheel... i know all about the oil line and head gasket......... every gasket and bearings are going to be new. im also using the b16 water pump and oil pump until i can get gsr.... im also getting the harness to switch from obd0 to obd1...... if there is anymore information that i need to know just let me know it would be great........... thanks alot

you will have to use some pretty good fuel, as your compression ratio with that set-up will be right at 12:1

with the b16 pistons, youve bumped it to 12:1.

if you kept the ls pistons, it would be right at 10:1

sure, just make sure you have it tuned on a dyno before hand (like blanco suggested)

Also for the oil pump if you just get an obd2 dohc one they are all the same.Type-r,LS,B20,B16...all the same.

Not to be the bad guy but i would suggest steering far away from the good ol ls/vtec setup, especially with a compression ratio of 12:1. IMO thats to much for a daily driver on a stock head. I no the sir can take a beating but can u honestly say u wont beat it up and down a street atleast 2 times a day? A couple friends of mine spent thousands on there frankensteins and ended up with bent valves, blown headgaskets etc...try to spend ur money on sumthin more profitable especially if u are going to dyno and tune.

thats why i suggest going gsr and modding that bad boy less complications and not so much money spent on extras. plus its reliable with moderate mods. but then again u already bought all the stuff so why not try :)

so will i have enough valve clearance with the b16 pistons??????? or should i just stick with the ls pistons..... i havent started building it yet i wanna make sure i get everything firgured out first i have everything just havent started yet........

i dont plan on running bigger cams i just want it to be all stock for right now.... besides the stock b16 pistons and the basic bolt on's.....

yes you will have enough clearance, but the clearances he's talking about arent just valve to piston clearance. If i have to list the others, then you need to have someone else build your engine or follow word for word out of a service manual.

hes right maybe u should take on an easier project to start off with? then move on to the ls/vtec after u have a better understanding of the connecting rod journal clearance connecting crank cap clearance, ring gap, and many others. either way good luck man.
