have you checked to see if you have a check engine light?

have you checked the firing order?

have you checked for spark?

have you verified the injectors are working properly?

have you checked the compression on all cylinders?

Id check all of these things, and come back to us with more questions.

then I went over all the fuses and their all ok, so Im going to take the distributor down to autozone and check if thats the problem

might wanna see what that cel is on for...might give you a starting place.

(you can usually rent a code reader at auto parts stores...just post up the code and we'll tell you what it means).

Well I took the distributor down to auto zone, the guy spun it around and said it was broken. The cheapest one they had was 224, I found a used one for 80, so Im hoping that will fix the problem.

lets start from the begining.

was the car running before, and then you tryed to start it ,an all of a sudden it wont start? or it never ran?

most of the ppl working at auto parts stores, usually dont know there head from there ass.

since you have a cel, obviously check that out first.

Actually I dont know what cel is, what I do know is that I got it from an auction which said it got it started. When I got it home it didnt start, tryed jump starting it, that didnt work. So I checked for a spark, not there, next I went over all the fuses to check if any had blown, all seemed fine, so like I said before, took it down to auto zone they said it was broken, so Im going to buy a used one tomarrow. Also if the o2 sensor is missing will that make a diffrence

yes, it will run like shit with no o2 sensor.

basically it determines how much fuel to add, and if its not there it will not let you rev the engine very high and it will run like crap.

Actually Im not sure what cel is, the auction I both the car at said they got it started, but when I got it home it didnt start, I tryed to jump start it, no luck, so I checked all the fuses, all seemed fine, checked for a spark, and there was none, the guy at auto zone said the distrubutor was broken, so Im planning to buy a used one tomarrow. And does it matter if Im missing the headers, cat, and o2 sensor?

Damn it, my post didnt appear, and as soon as i reposted it appeard, what the hell. Anyway, so does not matter with the o2 sensor, I got a deal with a guy for the distrubutor, cat, sensor, and headers off a 99 ls for 180, it wont matter that mine is 96? right, just making sure.

since you are still new, some posts require authoization before they can be seen by normal members. I approved your post, then i replied. thats why it wasnt instantly seen. shouldnt have any problems now.

2 words: Helm's Manual. It has pretty good troubleshooting sections. Check your grounds too. There is one on the front of the transmission, and one on the rear, near the intake manifold. But definitely find out what the CEL is for, and get an o2 sensor. They run about 130 from napa auto parts. Make sure you get a Bosch sensor, or an OEM from the dealership.
