Does anyone know any good info on doing timing belts on ZCs? Ive searched and searched every link I click on tells me to do something different, I've adjusted the timing on this ZC like 10 times and still its not acting right, only Codes I have are IAT and coolant temp sensors. It starts up idle is a little high but not too bad but when i tap the throttle rpms just drop like fuel cut off or something. Any suggestions?

How about a few specific details? What year/model chassis, which ECU are you running and what are the actual ECU codes it's kicking back?

I'm think I'm finally at the end of debugging my ZC conversion, 1989 JDM Civic ZC into a 1990 Civic Si with '89 teg ECU. It's been a 5 year process that included swapping in a new timing belt then finding the problem was a shot sensor in the distributor.

I was recently having it "idle' at 2500+ rpm and sometime strobe 2500/3500/2500/3500/2500/3500. If I was lucky it'd kick the check engine light on and go into limp home mode... error code 6.

Turns out the gent who did the conversion for me hooked up the TW sensor and pulled the lead TIGHT to get the harness clipped into it's holddown. So the temp sensor lead was making/breaking contact all the time.

The temp sensor is right under the distributor, the round connector with 2 leads.

So, what are your specifics?

Cheers,

Jim

yeah its a 88 si with the dohc zc not sure what year just know its OBD0.

I recently got rid of codes 7 and 9 which were throttle angle sensor and cylinder position or something.

Still runs like crap wont rev past 3k and when I press the throttle it just dies.

Only codes left are Code 6 engine coolant and Code 10 Intake Air Temp But wiring for the swap was done by previous owner and it looks like he grounded every wire he ran and its just a wiring mess

well coolant temp and iat (intake air temp) send crucial information for engine operation fix them and gauranteed engine improvment.

make sure that the connectors for the iac and map sensor are not crossed the connectors are the same but when i swaped my zc it wouldnt rev over 3 grand that was what was wrong the map wires are green/white and red/yellow the iac wires are black/yellow and blue/yellow

the map wires are green/white and red/yellow the iac wires are black/yellow and blue/yellow
the green/white and red/yellow wires go to the Intake Air Temp sensor (would give you code 10) - the MAP sensor has a 3-wire connector, and is not on the engine harness
