haha...I'll bet noone saw this coming

haha...

So me and 2 buddies are riding through some badass twisties about 20 miles or so outside of houston, and we hit a good straightaway. We take off, doing a tad bit over the speed limit, and out of nowhere my shit makes a loud BLAM!, and cuts off. I pull over and start it back up, and it's knocking like CRAZY. It had EXACTLY 10,000 miles on it (literally...the odometer read 10,000), and I had the oil changed (for free, under my badass warranty) at the dealership last week, 400 miles ago. I've had zero problems with it before tonite, no knocking or anything...and shit, I got the oil changed a week ago!

So we push the bike down the road a bit, Will goes and gets his truck, and we haul the Raggedy1 back to my apartment on the northside. Browsing on R1forums.com, it seems that the 04 R1's had a problem with spinning rod bearings.

But that isn't the best part. When I bought the bike in April, I paid for the full warranty for everything....100% parts & 100% labor for 2 years beyond the factory Yamaha warranty.

Hellz yeah!

About the first time I've heard anyone actually make out with an extended warrenty

you werent really even pushing it either. i wonder what happened?
ah hahahaha, yea right
bikes hitting a straight after twisties = beating the fuck out of it

that sucks about only 10K miles, but at least you have the warranty
i'm a little disappointed the motor couldn't take more of a beating
and when the hell did you get an R1? and how are you still alive?
you take it down yet?

I'm guessing twisties + no oil pan baffles = oil starved? When you hit the gas it got way too hot way too fast? That'd be my guess.

damn, i was actually thinking about picking up an 04/05 R6 next year. i wonder if they have the same problems.

Sounds about right - just glad nobody got hurt.

Its nice to see a fellow HS member win with an extended warranty!

Holy shit are you guys way off.

Let me get this straight, a super sport bike that in some cases spends most of it's life on a track (for most of the people I know that own them) some how will was pushing it to hard and starved the motor of oil? hahahahhahaha holyshit that's fucking funny. This bikes are built for one thing only, twistys. Sure there's a few people who like doing highway runs with R1s but IMO they're stupid dumbasses that need to sell their bikes and buy a stretched out Busa that handles like shit.

I bet will was pushing that bike maybe near 60% of it's limits. shit I bet I could only push that bike about that far.

As with most supersport bikes, they're based off track bikes. There's no reason why his bike should have blown up, as will said, it sounds like yamaha ran off a few fawed motors.

I think it was an issue with the day that part of the motor was built,

R1's motor isnt the same as the R6, unless they're sharing the same bearings.

Well...that's what happened to the GSX-R motor we were running in our old Formula SAE car...it got oil starved and spun a rod bearing.

I beat the everloving shit out of my 05 R6 on the roads out by Willow Spring for an entire summer. Not one single problem of the engine hiccupping once. I had about 15k on the clock. The 05 R6 is a solid platform, and it's got a bit better equipment than the 04, suspension and brakeswise, so I'd go for the 05 model if you can get one.

I agree with Jeffie. Will just got a lemon motor. But that is what warranties are for. Good job, wil. You got yourself a new motor. But be prepared for the dealer to ask you to pay for part of the labor. Dealerships are shady sheisters.
