Well, at least 2000si seemed interested so I thought I'd start up this thread for the new whip.

1996 Ford Escort
Two door Hatchback
Lx - 1.9 straight 4
Non-operational speedo/odometer - most likely a connection problem, but still needs to be checked
transmission gives a little jump from 1st to 2nd (auto), kinda seems like its made of glass anyways - so it worries me even more.

Someone else probably knows a shit-load more than me so please spew forth your knowledge.

And yes, TTIWWOP, pics will come later.

Also, any good forums would rock. I've only seen feoa.net and im not too impressed, not even registered yet.

Well, maybe i should also mention im not gay - or what you might call a "tuner".

So dont start telling me "oh you gosta drizzop a H22 or 1.ieghtyGTurbo moto in thar!!11!!"

All right, line up your fuckin nerds. Who wants a shot at the champ!?

not bad not bad. it looks like it could use a lil TLC. u could always drop in the 1.8L DOHC Mazda motor that was in the 91-96 Escort GT's. 130hp and they are pretty peppy too not to mention there is actually aftermarket support for them as well.

booo! a lot of people are asses there, but it's got some of the best information.

and I'm a supermoderator there. I used to have a 92 GT which got me into cars... so...

You could do an SPI swap, 22 extra horses for a grand. :D

Don't listen to Brian, the 1.8 engine would require custom mounts... like an H22 into a Civic.

A 2.0 will drop right in, and you can use your stock 1.9 tranny too. ;)

Your VSS is probably fucked, it's not uncommon on those cars. Honestly about the transmissions, they're not glass trannies like Subaru trannies. Might want to do some fluid changes though. Might help the 'jumping'.

vehicle speed sensor. On the GT model transmissions it's towards the top of the tranny, so my guess is that Ford put them near the same place on the LX trans.
