Has anyone tried 2nd gear take off. I have the accord motor/trans and its the only way that works. Is it just the bad gear ratio? First gear seems worthless for anything than spinning the tires.

if you spin the tires, launch at a lower rpm and feather the clutch. it's not the car, it's the driver.

ok, I'm not stupid, it just seems like a wasted gear in my case. Its only good for a split second anyway. Once they start test and tunes again I'll try it. And its not the driver, I can keep 1st from spinning the tires but in doing it you take more time. Most of the people I've raced I've started in second and just slipped the clutch alitle bit and its worked. Not to say its not hard on the clutch. It could be that the gear ratio is different than most civic transmissions like on a B or H series.

I did this when racing my friend with my crx. I couldn't get 1st to hook at all. I started in second and burnt him cause he had to let off to shift into second.

nice, thats what I'm tryin to explain. The cars are light enough that it doesn't take anything to get them rolling.

wow, your friend can't drive... shit, maybe i should start in 5th gear from now on since i won't have to shift at all, and the other person has to shift 4 times, I should win every race...yeah that's it, i knew I was smarter than those so-called pro's...

you are still accelerating slower by starting in 2nd gear i don't care what you say. Just because it "seems" like it takes longer it doesn't, assuming you know how to drive and not spin like crazy.

and you're suppose to feather the clutch and gas together, not just one or the other.

You don't want to spin, go get some slicks...the end

What tires? What tire pressure? Adjustable shocks or ride height? Theres a LOT of factors that can screw up the front traction. If you have some decent tires, drop the pressure down and try another launch. I was able to muster a 2.05 60ft mark in my Matrix with an auto and street tires. I got the Accord to a 2.0 60ft mark by adjusting the rear shocks stiffer and a lil rake on the car. That and 25psi in the tires worked for me. 1st is DEFINATELY not a waste, the race is won or lost in the 1st 60ft, any REAL drag racer will tell you that.

+1...you are dumb if you think it's faster to start from second. races really are won and lost in the first 60 feet. why do you think that is all that is ever practiced. its all about reaction time and traction.

get an lsd, better tires, stiffer springs and PRACTICE LAUNCHING. that's the key right there.

sell your car and get a rwd mustang and just become the white trash pimp we know you want to be

I dont know man, i drove my Honda a lil bit yesterday and even with 250+WTQ my 1st gear isnt useless. I suggest a LOT of practicing :)

Yeah, my rex had bald tires and i can get overzelous with my right foot. Pretty much i just wanted to see what happened, i was uber surprised when i won. I agree that you are faster when starting in first but i don't think by as much as most might think.

Guys it is faster to start from 2nd if you have enough TORQUE. The stock first gears are really short for daily driving. If you're spinning first and still feathering it, then go ahead and start in 2nd and try feather. Dumping the clutch will always cause the tires to spin.

ya, the F22 does have more torque than hp
