hi, to start heres a little backround, i am new to this site and hondas. i have always been into cars but growing up were i did it was always american mucle and thats what i have been into ever since i was little but one of my friends always was into imports and i do not discriminate when it comes to cars, so he got me into that secne, and to be honest there in close competition if not better. he took me to sema two years in a row and that sealed it for me, there is so much out there other than american mucle cars. i have a 85 cutlass with a 383 stroker in it and tons of other stuff and that is my mucle car. that car used to be my daily driver and after i did it all up i needed something to drive. i picked up a 91 civic hatch with 1.5 and a 4 speed, slow as hell! but good on gas. the car is in great shape and has adjustable coil overs and full exhaust and early 90's gsr wheels but is has 151,000 mi and is very very tired. i love the car and after a lot of research and learning ( dont no everything yet) i decided to swap in a d16z6 with si 5 spd cable tranny. i am gettin the motor and tranny from jsamotors.com and dude is givin me a good deal, i just dont trust ebay for a motor. when doing my research on swapping this engine i found a lot of information on this site, which kicks ass, and decided to join because i need help.

Questions:
1. what kind of tools will i need and i mean everything down to what socket sizes.
2. i am going to order the complete engine, tranny (cable) and a ecu from a 92-95. i plan on replacing the timing belt and water pump befor i install it. but is this all i need, if not what else is there?
3. i am so confused on this wiring stuff, the dude from jsa told me that the engine comes with the engine harness but it is jdm therefore it is made for a righthand drive car he told me to get rid of that when i get the engine and use the harness from my 1.5. i dont get though, how a dpfi harness will work on a mpfi engine not to mention the vtec part??
4. i also know that i need a conversion harness, but what kind? is it obd1-obd0 or obd0-obd1 i ask this because i am using a 92-95 ecu with the harness from a obd0 engine.
5. i also would love it if someone knew a kick ass write up on the swap itself, engine removal and new engine install. i know someone has done this before.

i love hondas and all imports for that matter, i am currently in areonautical school for aviation mantenance so i am technically inclined i just need some guidence. thank you and sorry for the huge thread.

Well, join the club. Theres a good handfull of us(here on HS) going in for our A & P certification(and at least one guy already a certified mech.).. how far along are you?

1. Metric sockets, wrenches, pliers, breaker bars, impact guns, just have your crap ready. I did my engine swap with a Craftsman 100piece set along with the nessesary pliers and impact gun uses. Racheting wrenches are your friend!

2, 3, 4. Engine, trans, ECU, ECU conversion harness(which comes provided with the VTEC and o2 sensor wires you'll need to install), and convert your system to MPFI.

5. There might be some usefull info in my Engine swap thread, because I just did it.(D16Z6 into a CRX SI).
Otherwise, just search and read.

Impact gun is wayyyy easier...
Air tools make life so much easier. When I changed my CV's I broke 2 sokets using a breaker bar. Then I used the impact wrench and it made it so much easier.

i go to Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and i just started my 5th of 7 quarters....thank u guys for all the help and im goin to use the d16 into and ef link, i dont think it gets any better than that....but still not clear about the dpfi to mpfi will the wiring harness take car of that and vtec??

awesome link dude thanx ill be ordering everything today and i probably wont start on it till next week wish me luck, im sure ill be back on here with questions if it dosent go as easy as i think it will be

well i got screwed already hahaha when i ordered the engine tranny and computer tha dude told me earlier that he would have a tranny and now he dosent....so i am on my own on that one.....question is, is it really nessacary to get a 5spd? can i leave my 4 spd in there or would that kill the engines power? and if i should get one should i get the 1.5litre 5spd or the 1.6litre 5spd out of a 91 civic/crx

You can use your 4spd, but 5spd is recomended in my opinion.

that link that blanco put up is for takin a 91 dpfi system and converting it to 91 mpfi and that uses obd0 injectors, i will be using obd1 injectors. does that mean i need a resistor box from a 92-95 civic/crx or not one at all. the other link with the whole swap dosent even include a resistor box in the parts required page

thanx dude for the wire and tranny tips i got a good si tranny for 75! aint that sweet....i guess it pays off when u know the right people...the engine is coming tommorw with the ecu and the tranny and conversion harness are here all im waitin on is the clutch and in the mean time im gonna get the timin belt and water pump taken care of, also pick up the plugs, wires, oil, filter, and find a engine lift

hey, the conversion harness has three plugs on the ecu side and two of them go into the ecu....where does the other one go? fyi, i got the ecu for a 92-95 and a 0bd0 to obd1 conversion harness

im sorry for all the damn questions im just new to this, it was so much easier in the cutty.....i am in the process of changing the timing belt, when i got to the part where you take off the crank pulley i went to try to break it and was in for a little slap in the face. it just turns the engine over! how and where do i hold so i can break that nut?? fyi, the engine is on a pallet with no flywheel or tranny up to it

or just spray it with some PB Blaster then use an impact gun and zip it off.
takes under a minute.....
