Go fast, Go Cheap
so before he left to go back to school my friend bet me $40 if i could beat him in a 1/4 drag race (legally at a track) by the time he got back in the summer.
he has a 2004 mach 1 mustang, his fastest time was 13.8. I know i am at least as good of a driver in the 1/4 as he is. I was able to pull off 15.4 seconds in my b18b1 swapped hatch.
Right now my set up is;
B18b1
LS trans(one thing i think i need to change ot be faster)
14b turbo(with a t3 ready planning on 10 psi and waiting to be put in)
with the new turbo i am hoping to break 200 whp
450 cc injectors
stage 1 clutch and pressure plate
i plan on getting new tires before then.
before i tuned it i couldn't get it to go lower than 16 due to bad 60' times (i think cause of tires) and a shady trans (anyone got an extra b16 trans?).

any suggestions on building my car to run 13s?

Gut the beotch all the way and work on your launch. That's where the race will be won or lost. 13.8 is going to be tough......

I was a lil iffy on that too, I think it was just a swapped hatch running that time.

My buddy (88civicLS) ran high 14's all day with intake/lightened flywheel in his hatch with a b18. All day. Sounds like you need to practice launching and such. He was on 14" steelies with bad tires.

with a different tranny i think you'd be good.. GSR > B16 since its boosted..

you ran a 15.4 on a B18 boosted hatch?
or that was NA?

that was NA

i didn't boost my hatch, only my current car but due to poor sixty foot times i could beat my old times.
I need to make my currently 16 second del Sol into a low 13 second car.
plans thus far;
new syncros in the trans at the very least.
good tires up front
60 trim t3 turbo(.60intake/.63exhaust) with 10 psi in boost, compared to the malfunctioning wastegate i have that puts me around 2-3 psi with a 14b

is this a heads up race or et race?
ET race
we will be running in a Friday night street racing series that's bracket racing

GSR > B16 since its boosted..

would it be cheaper to put gsr internals into my LS trans?
I know the b18 trans have sturdier differentials, is the diff in my trans the same as the non-lsd gsr's?

so fix the wastegate

pulling WORSE times with a boosted del sol over an NA hatch makes me wonder about your driving skills

sounds like you were launching WAY too high and got no traction

were there rules established about tire selection?

If not get some drag radials/slicks (borrow from a friend maybe?) for the race and practice your launch/driving. Boosted ls with a 60/63 even in a del slo with whatever tranny should be a 13 sec car easy with good driving.

also do some weight loss before the race... anything can help and its free

edit: also how much tuning has/is going to be done? a good tune could do wonders as well

i suggest slicks and an lsd. i would race more for pride than $40. $40 is gas money to the track.

get a GOOD tune, lsd, slicks and you should win by at least .25

I am using J-K Tuning - J-K Tuning to program my ecu.
fear of messing up my syncros even more makes me run bad times.
It is mostly for pride, i had a faster car than him, then he got a mach1 mustang, he just wanted to give me more motivation to beat him. I am the poor friend he is the rich one.

so basically he knows that you don't have any money, but he is going to instigate a race that will motivate you to spend money you don't have on mods you really don't need? sounds like a good friend to me.

borrow some slicks and get a new tranny. done deal.

oh i have money, i like to smoke weed. . . he'd rather see me spend that money on my car.

so i'll put in a new transmission, get slicks and learn to drive it, and i should be set after i install my turbo. seems simple let estimate how much i am going to spend
liberal high end estimates
transmission from hmotorsonline: type-r $1200, b16 $700
Good tires - $250
tuning - $200
total - $1450
not too bad, i can budget that much in 4 months

oh yeah, the turbo i have, has a 2 inch outlet to the exhaust should i still use a 3 inch downpipe since the gases are under pressure they need to room to expand is my reasoning.
this is getting kinda technical maybe move it to the another forum, i am not sure which one though

but the goal he wants is for me to build a faster car than his, i know i could beat him with a geo if it was just a bracket race.

Now I'm really confused.

Is this a heads up drag or bracket race?

Heads up and you have your work cutout for you. Do you have a wideband and EGT in that car? I'm semi local and could help you tune it up with the new turbo. I like to puff as well!!! :D

it's who ever can get the best ET, his best is 13.8 although his car is capable of 13.1 by the best drivers.
I do not have a wideband in my car and i am not sure what an EGT is, i have some idea but no one has clearly explained it to me.
t&a if you'd be willing to help i'll be sure to let you know when i am working on it.

EGT is Exhaust Gas Temp. That and a wideband are essential IMO.

You have chipped ECU right? If so, I have Crome and chips. We could tune it up in an afternoon.
