Hi guys, im new here..... abit of self intro here..... Im driving a GD8 aka Fit Aria / City. Was wondering wat engine can i swap into this little sedan here besides the K series ?

Wanted to try a B18C but definitely no way and the engine is way too big....

Also the local authorities here doesnt allow swaps larger than 20% or 25% of the original cc of the car intended for the swap. So this makes me in a dilema. :(

Also the engine is fitted with a CVT gearbox, which can't be t/charge due to some technical issues. So..... that leaves me with no choice but to swap.

Well...... any brothers out there who know some stuff please give me some pointers. Would gladly hear some comments and feedbacks.

Thanks.

well find out the cc's then do the math. Then you know your options. As for a b series in a fit.. uh no. And you'll have to wait a few months for hasport to release its Fit kit to the public.. and maybe a month more for the wiring harness and axles...

If the local authorities allow you to swap in a 25% larger engine, you should be able to get a 1.8L in there. Assuming a perfect 1500cc engine (not sure what the L15A is offhand), then you have 1875cc to play with right? Even at 20% you'll still be able to use an 1800cc engine. You might want to look into the R18 engine that comes in the current model Civic. Its dimensions are almost identical to the B18C (slightly longer stroke, same bore), so the displacement should still be right under 1800cc. It also matches up with the electronics revision (model year) of the current Fit/City, so it should wire up a little more easily than a B18C.

I don't know if anyone makes mount kits for it yet, but it's worth a try.

Where are you located?

My options are limited to only 1.5L to 1.8L not to say under 1.5L which i definitely will not. R18 is quite a new engine there.....so i'm afraid it might not be available here.....

So you're saying that the dimensions between the B18C and R18 are relatively the same, then i don't think i would be looking for this engine. Coz for wat i know that the B18c has quite a hugh block which would'nt be able to fit in my small engine bay. Few days back, went to the local chop shop to find some engines and saw an Integra(DC2 round headlamps) half cut there. Just wondering how would this engine ever fit my car.

So went on to the next section with toyota engines, saw an 4E-FTE Starlet (Ep82 i think) which would most probably fit my engine bay. But for the authorities here to approve a swap from different Car Makes would be hard, almost impossible.

Btw i'm from malaysia. Nice to meet you guys.

no, he's saying the cc's of a r18 and a b18c should be the same, the r and k series engines are actually the slimmest engines, the b's look big in comparison.

A b-series in a fit?? i dont think its gonna work bud, the motors spin the opposite way of eachother which, i think, its the biggest problem. As for a toyota motor... good f'n luck. That really blows you cant put a k20 in there, hasport wil have the mounts in a couple of months.

I was saying that the internal dimensions of the B18C and the R18A are about the same. Both have 81mm bores, and the R18A has an 87.3mm stroke, slightly longer than the B18C at 87.2mm. The external dimensions of the block are probably similar to how the K blocks were different from the B- I would imagine that they are taller and slimmer (also because it's SOHC and not DOHC), kind of how the L is taller and slimmer than the D series.

As for being newer, yes they will be harder to find- but since the electronics will be more similar to what's in your new City- you'll have a MUCH better chance of the engine swap being plug and play compared to trying to shove an ancient B series engine into your car. You might even be able to just plug everything back in and plug in the R18's ECU if your City is wired for VTEC already.

I wouldn't even think about putting a 4E-FTE into your car. Those engines are so ancient that you would have a hell of a time trying to get everything to wire up and behave in your 2006-2007 model car. You would have better luck getting the B block to work- or better yet- turbocharging your stock engine.

Well..... i got the message intepreted wrongly. Seriously i know nuts about engines. As for the toyota motor, nah. Its not goin to happen and almost impossible for it to happen.. Heh..

My english is not that good so you guys have to bear with me.... Trying to pick up what you guys were saying. :)

Being new is definitely better compared to ancients. But i do have a budget and kinda limited. Not sure whether my car's depth are enough for the R18 since they are taller.

Guess i would try to source for the R18. Turbocharging is definitely not the choice, would really loved it if i could. There are some jazz freaks here who went for the turbochargers and guess what..... CVT tranny went like boom. Gotta buy a new transmission. Its only a mere 0.4 bar boost. "Nice" right. Thats the problem here.

Well thanks anyways for your info over there..... I could need somemore help man. If i could find some detailed specifications on the engines like the height and so, it would great.

I've been trying to find the external dimensions myself.

As for the thinner taller engine fitting better, I was more going by how Honda seems to be designing their engine bays now. Both the Civic and the Fit (Jazz) here in the USA have shorter (front to rear) engine bays with more height. The L15A engine sold in the Fit is both thinner and taller than the D15/16/17 that came before it, as is the K when compared to the B, so I assume that the R block follows the same design principles. The Civic's engine bay is definitely shorter front to rear and taller compared to previous generations.

The K block has been shoved into the Fit many times already, so I don't think that the R would have too many problems fitting in the same space. It should actually be thinner than the K because it only has to support one camshaft in the head.

I don't know how the City's engine bay compares to the Fit, but the cars are based on the same chassis, so I would hope that the engine bays are the same too.

its cool, i forgot you werent from around here.

It sounds like the r18 is the only choice for you since you cant go any larger. Although you could be a rebel and get a k20 anyways..

<-- Part of me wants a Fit... and as soon as k20 mounts become available... i may actually get one.

The fit's engine bay and city's bay are almost identical if i'm not wrong. I would think that the chassis of both cars are from the same design except that the jazz is a hatch. Other than that, all should be the same.

Jazz with K's are great man. Like a lil rocket. Somewhere on the net, there's this Fit Spec D (supercharged), with 145hp on the wheels.

So if i can't find or afford a (new engine) swap, might be thinking to supercharging the stock L15A? Is it possible? Will the CVT be able to handle the gains?

Yeah man, f... the authorities. If it werent the authorities, it would be so great. So i think i've got only one choice, thats the R18.

I thought they do have the k20 mounts for the jazz available? Getting the K20 aint cheap. A whooping 20 grand (MYR) not to include labour charges. It may sound cheap to you guys as when converted is only around 5K or so.

5k is still expensive.

You might want to look into turbocharging the stock engine- you can do that for quite a bit less than any swap. Skunk2 out in California put down 210whp with their turbo Fit, and that was with the stock block. I don't know what turbo they used, but it was done and ran just under 14.0s in the quarter mile (400m).

You could put together a lower powered turbo setup and run that for more conservative output numbers- but I don't know how much torque the CVT will hold.

I've yet to see a company that sells the k20/fit mounts. fitfreak.com fitswap.com and the fit owners club tell me that no one makes a mass production kit yet. I believe them because well, if there was a production kit, the 100's of members on those boards wouldnt all be bitching about how they want some mounts...

You could spend 4,000 USD and just get a k20a2

Hmm..... Not sure man. Would really like to turbocharge the stock engine, but i'm just afraid that the CVT might not take it.

Fitfreak.net has a guy that had turbocharged his stock engine. Also did changed his pistons, crankshaft, rods and injectors. T25 upgraded turbo from S13/S15.
Really cool man. 200whp

So you're telling me that those with K's are custom made? Also true, if there're any mass production on these kits, the local shops might have got news. Since there are many jazz lovers here that might want more oomph.

It might quite be something seeing a jazz smoking B16's.

hybrid-racing is making some, hasport has made a few mount kits but are still doing the electrical, which i hear is the hardest part.

Hmm. I don't think the CVT would take it- but I'm sure you could easily swap the manual in.

I'm pretty sure that Skunk2 made their power on the stock internal block.

Nevermind, i try asking thoroughly. I could do the tranny swap, cost around RM2k or so. I think i still opt for the CVTcharged. Hehe

You could always try out the CVT for a while, then get ready to swap in a manual if/when the CVT blows up.

Looks like it aint gonna be cheap for this "test". Anyways thanks for the help man. Really appreciate it very much.

Btw may i know where can i find detailed specifications of the Fit / Jazz / City.

Like the piston size etc. Need full details.

Thanks.
