Selling His 91 5sp Civic
Well when i got my 91 civic lx it cost me a little over 2 thou, I found out that it had a Rebuilt title after i got the paperwork from the dealership....... Teh car has no problems what so ever, Runs like a champ, only has 152xxx miles on it and is in Great shape, No rust!!!! I was talking with my Momz and family, they said I should sell it after i get it titled in my name and get a auto tranny, and i agree, auto it the only thing i know how to drive. Sorry wrong car, I didn't ask for a carfax for this one, i was thinking about the old one.
So i am going to sell it, But at what price would any of you pay for it. The car is Clean inside and out.
I am thinking about selling it out right for 2,500 Less than what i paid for it with my trade in.

I need help, cause i can't drive it, and it scares me everytime i do... :(
Please don't flame me or bash me, i am only asking for help.

Thanks,
Rob.

I'd contact a lawyer, depending on the state they might HAVE TO disclose if it had a rebuilt title. If that's the case they need to buy the car back from you.

As far as the auto comment, WTF spend all of 5 minutes to figure out how a 5 speed works and then you're done. after 2-3 days of driving you'll forget all about it being a stick.

Honda civics are way underpowered and with an auto they feel..... well even worse.

see, i don't think they used carfax report, i think they used something else, can't remember.. I was never told it was a Rebuilt title...

Either way if the car was traded in THEY HAD a title in hand, there's no way they could have missed that NO WAY.

Now if they knew you wanted it and bought it from another store, then maybe it could have been passed by with out them seeing it.

call them and if they don't help get an internet linching going

do you have the report cause they had to know? and you askd for it
Thats one thing i forgot to ask for.. I was thinking about my old car, i didn't ask for a carfax for this one.. Stupid me... Didn't even cross my mind to ask... I keep thinking about my old intrepid, thats the one i got the report for and i keep thinking its the honda... *I tend to forget about shit often*

I also just got done fileing a "Lemon Report for the Honda" I know i didn't do it right... oh wellz... Just gonna sell it.

you'll have a damn hard time trying to sell a 91 civic for 2500 bucks. especially an LX model. maybe an si would get that much... but an lx sedan... no one in the tuner world wants. And then, thats on a clean title car.

rebuilt means it was considered a total loss at one point in its life.

seriously, you'll have a hard time getting 500 bucks for that thing.

go back to where you got it from, and plead your case.

well, i understand, thanks for the input. I will try for 2000 but if i can't get that i will just keep it and look for another car.

One the Title it says: DUPLICATE

WTF does that mean?

Also the title says Odometer/Brand 106185 /Actual ----- Odometer Fraud? Cars Odometer Reads 152757

Dude what don't you get about either calling a lawyer (they could be breaking a state law) or just going back and letting them know it was a TOTALED CAR.

Why don't you keep trying to take a major loss on this like it's ok and you'll just move on?

Pissedoffsol nailed it, your car is worth about it's wight in scrap metal.
$500.00 bucks AT BEST and that would only be if someone needed a parts car.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

Thanks for the input though.

It's a shame that happened, here is my "Salvage" title (A little different, technically, but legally similar)

I had a 1987 Subaru Brat. It was t-boned pretty hard. It still tracked straight, and I put it on a frame straightening machine (I work part time at a body shop) and it was right on. Only body damage. But because the person that gave it to me (I traded my Shadow 750 cruiser) decided he wanted money, he had it totalled out (Ergo, Salvage)

I could have fixed the car, technically, but the legal paperwork ALONE was over $800 (From beginning to end) and involved so much testing and inspection that the whole car (even bits of the interior and glass) had to be factory perfect. So I was going to invest about $2500 overall and about 200 hours to make it "road worthy" even though it already was.

Back on the topic of Civics. Not many people realise this, but most Civics on the road are complete potato chips. Strut tower bars, lightweight hoods, far-too-stiff bushings, ultra-stiff suspension (And even papercutter doors in some cars) make them rolling deathtraps. Not a lot of people realise that racing suspension bits are made for a smooth track, and actually cause a LOSS of control on normal, bumpy and shittily maintained roads. Hitting a patch of oil, for instance, is remarkably worse in a stiff suspensioned car than not. Strut tower bars mean that if you take a hit on one side of the car, ALL of that energy is transferred to the opposite side at the same time. So hitting a deer, say, on one side will lead to actual frame damage on the seemingly untouched side.

Last point I want to touch on, is what to actually do. If it's too late to undo the purchase, then you should consider taking it to a body shop with a frame machine. That machine will tell you if the car is safe as speeds. From there, while they are hooking it up to the machine (at least an hour process, so pay the guy for his time) if the body seams and structural bits are ok. If the body guy gives it a clean bill of health then you're all set. There is, however, a caveat. Most body guys won't do what you request. They realise that if they do, and you get into an accident, they can be sued for somehow telling you that it was safe to do 120 mph into a pole. My shop, for instance, will send you on your way for suggesting such a thing. If you enter the shop and say "Hey, Jim, can I talk to you?" and he says "My name isn't Jim" and you respond "Hey, to me you're Jim of AA body service. I have no clue who you are, where you are, or that we even spoke today" he should get the idea that you're straight up and actually want to make the right move.

Good luck with that, and expect to drop another $500 or so into this car to make it as good as a $500 Civic could be. Oh, I'm sorry.. you said $2000 ? Wow. They saw you coming.

Let me say this again, ODOMETER FRAUD. the title says one thing, the car says another... they are fucked.

The title is written when the car is first registered. My titles show the mileage when I got the car. So my car says a different number too - dramatically.

Celerity, let me put it away when i bought it, the car when i bought it had 152627 miles on it, i put 30 to 40 miles on it now, but when i got the paper work the title showed the mileage at 106185 /Actual...... Which means something is fucked up....

when you got the title back in your name? or the title still had the previous owners name on it?
