I just got a Best buy gift card from my aunt, so it'll help me to purchase a deck for my truck.

The prerequisites: < $150, it needs to have a front aux input so I can plug my laptop in it, and it needs to not be a flip down face (After my kenwood, I'll never buy another flip down).

I've looked at Sony and Pioneer, the Sony seems too cheaply made, although for a work truck, I'd buy it.

The pioneer is slightly above the $150 that I want to spend.

What are your opinions on different decks? Help me search! and remember, it's going to come from Best Buy.

I'll be putting a sub/amp in the back as well, I already have a 150w dual channel amplifier from my old setup... so Any recommendations on 200-300w subs are welcomed as well.

Go with a 10/12 inch Alpine Type E from Bestbuy, then check out the Pioneer X900MP series on crutchfield: Car Audio & Video/Car Stereos & Components/CD Receivers at Crutchfield.com

The X800MP's dont have the front aux input (and are the ones listed on Bestbuy.com). So Im not sure which pioneer you're talking about that you were considering.

They had one front aux input there for something like $199 or so, I'm gonna stop by tonight and write down the model numbers.

Current Pioneer line is REALLY good. Right now, Pioneer >>> Sony for sure, especially in that price range.

Yeah I LOVED my old pioneer deck. That thing never gave me problems like my kenwood does.

I had my pioneer in both my Geo and Escort. Even after that accident where i ricochet'd off an S10 in the Geo... it worked smoothly in the Escort.

I'm probably about 90% sure I want to go with a Pioneer, I just need to get the cash next month for it. I never got to go to Best buy tonight because I forgot about our shareholders meeting, blah.

Maybe tomorrow during the day/after work.

Yup, that one's nice. Go take a look at Name Brand Car Audio and Video at an affordable price! Savings on Car CD Players, MP3 Players, Car Amplifiers, Car Subwoofers, Car Speakers, and Car Video at Sonic Electronix! Car Audio, CD Players, MP3 Players, Subwoofers, Speakers, Car Alarms and m. They give you all the freebies that Crutchfield throws in the box, have better prices, much better selection (have the Premier line too), and are every bit as reliable. I got my Premier 980BT from them just a few months ago.

This one is even better. Crutchfield will throw in the adapter and harness as well. I might have to order this one, and use my gift card for a power inverter for my laptop. :)

Pioneer DEH-1900MP CD receiver with MP3/WMA playback at Crutchfield.com

Oh damn thanks for that link, Cal. I had a friend who worked for a warehouse that'd get stuff like that. I got the SLP amp in my car for 40 bucks. lol

Thanks again.

:)

What I'm saying is that you can get the 1900MP at SonicElectronix for less than Crutchfield, and you still get the adapter and harness free.

Yep! I looked at them last night. I saved the link so I could look at it when I have some money.

I looked back through crutchfield... my speakers/deck and changer were over 440 dollars for my car. lol holy crap I spent a lot.

I would get alpine, i have run 2 pioneer, 3 kenwood, 4 alpine & 1 sony decks before, i would say the kenwoods were by far the best decks in the features and controls, but they all ended up breaking within 2 years, one in less than a year. The alpines seemed to get the job done well, and i have never had one take a shit on me. Alpine also makes good subs, the type r's and type s's sound really good and aren't that pricey. you can get the type r subs at almost half retail price on ebay too.

Thank You Mr. Mike! I just got on sonic electronix and ordered this:

Pioneer DEH-1900MP - CD-R/W and MP3/WMA p...

Once I get to my bank and verify my shipping address (since it's different than billing) I should receive my new deck sometime soon.

89.99+ 12.xx shipping. Pretty cheap for a good Pioneer deck with a remote and an aux input. The same deck went for 99.99 on Crutchfield. :D

I went and bought myself a power inverter at Best Buy today so that part is set for me.

Now i'll just need to get a sub/box/wiring kit and an auxillary input wire for the laptop and I'll be set. But I'm not buying anything else right now. lol

I would agree with you for Alpine decks made a few years ago- but not today. The sound quality isn't there anymore, and the electronics durability sure as hell isn't either. Anything Alpine made under $1000 after 2004 really sucked. They're catering to the "Best Buy market," not the audiophile. You can't even buy a current Alpine deck now for under $800 retail that has preamp outputs higher than 2V or one that has more than 3 adjustable equalizer bands. You can't get a good new Alpine deck unless you get a flip up screen DVD player, and that's expensive.

*has a stroke*

Christ... lol

Eh, the Alpine 7998 that I bought back in 2002 cost me $800, and it's just a signal unit. No onboard amp, no weird frills- just one damn good head unit. :)

I'm thinking of getting Katie the 2900 to go into her car. Her cheapie Kenwood from 5 years ago is just about dead.

I ordered myself a Pioneer deck with remote a week or so ago and it got here two days ago, along with the install kit, etc.

So I stopped by D&B sales since we're having a slow day (wtf I'm home at 12:15 cause I ain't gonna kill myself doing PR work) and got an 8 gauge sub wiring kit.

All I need now is a sub and box. I'm thinking of staying with a 10", but I found some nice deals on 12" subs as well.

While I was in D&B the lady said that today only was "everything 15% off". So I'm standing there thinking damn... I wish I had money to get the sub/box right now.

Oh and I'll probably be putting in the deck this weekend since I have no time (well, I do but not gonna do it now) to install it.

Then I'll just have the wiring in place for when I can pull my amp from the closet and get a sub and box.
