I'm uninformed? Ok. I suppose I am. I don't know a god damn thing. I don't follow politics because it's all a game of favorites. I do read about things that are current issues. I do participate. You say I'm a lump.

Your opinion is your opinion. Mine is mine. But, if you must, assume what you will. The day you and I actually hang out, then I'll let you speak for me as if you know me.

And, today wasn't the best day to do this. After going to my best friend's funeral, I had to go yesterday to her crematorium with her mother, and bury her. So, forgive me if my outlook of the world is a bit shadowed at the moment. That hardly means I have a negative outlook on the world ALL the time.

For clarification my point in posting this was as follows.

The radical sect of the Islam world IS at war with us, period.

Leaving Iraq won't change that, negotiating won't change that, raising their quality of life won't change that.

If we do any of those things they will see it as progress against us which will only further fuel their campaign to bring us down, just like they believe they toppled the USSR.

We might not have asked for this war directly but we're damn sure in it, like it or not. It is, on one level, comparable to the Continental Congress voting as to whether or not they would assemble an army to defend Massachusetts from the British. They voted to fight on the basis that regardless of what they wanted the British were already coming to attack, they had to fight back.

Just like we must fight the radical sect of Islam, which includes Iraq.

And yes we need to get Bin Laden, but that doesn't mean we don't need to win in Iraq

actually believing that the GOP sees Iraq as entirely radical (which I never even came close to saying)

believing that America can't win

that more then anything else pisses me off about the people on this site. FYI, America IS the greatest country in the world, American unified CAN do/win anything

nobody that has never served in the military will have the same understanding and passion like those of us who have. 99% of the time you and me think the same about an isse. Just remember to pick your battles. don't waste your time trying to argue with ignorant people or people who won't ever understand our point of view because of our experiences.

Fun Fact: The kill ratio in Vietnam was 10:1 in favor of the US, given that ratio how is ANY war unwinnable?

Your are right, the majority of the country decided we should leave after the media coverage of the Tet offensive. Funny thing was that was the period of the war with the most accelerated body count of enemy combatants, in fact the Viet Cong was nearly slaughtered en mass. Somehow that Lefty media still managed to show it as a loss for America...
 
"No war has ever been win in the Balkans" That state held true for all of human history, until the US Military stepped in.

The war in Iraq IS won. The rebuilding takes time.

And I would like to correct Silver on one statement : Radical Islam is not at war with us. The whole of Islam is at war with us. Those that pick up a gun are the direct target, but they are supported by all Muslims. The Progressive "protect women" muslims are few and far between, and they are our only allies. Even peaceful Muslims refuse to speak up against the "extremist" muslims because they don't seem to mind the whole idea of terrorist acts.

We also need to remember the difference between some of these "terrorist" groups. Mujahideen (Spellius Wrongus), Hamas, Hezbollah, AlQuaida - they are all government backed private groups of religiously justified murderers.
