I have a 00civic that i'm about to swap a b18c1 engine into n turbo it. i have 7grand laying around to do this, i will do the swap myself.

Now that's the problem... 7k$ isn't leaving a lot of money for the turbo..and i'm not getting a cheap knock off turbo from ebay. Ofcoarse i'd have to work extra hours, but i'd have to do that anyways for other car parts.

I always liked honda, but i also like the 240sx, the problem is i have almost no knowledge of the technical side of nissan cars, especially a 240.:huh:

I know i could just buy a old high-mileage maybe non-running 240sx. for about $1k-3k. i can sell my car the way it is now(stock) for about $5k.

So I would have around 12k$:ph34r: to invest into a stock 240. I know nissan engines are damn cheap compared to honda engines. i saw a sr20 for less then $2000. and they're already boosted.

I don't know how the 240sx feels compared to a civic, and i have no idea of which of the two options to choose:(. So if you guys can help i'd very appreciate it =)
 
I'm satisfied with both. Working with cars, and therefore me being studying for a mechanical engi. major, is the thing i love, so i'd rather modify the cars and learn how they work with hands on experience. I know i can just buy a nice lexus is300 for around 10k(i kno where). But that would be just a point A-point B car which i wash n wax here n there.
You're advice is good, don't get me wrong, but it's just not my cup of tea to just drive a car.
And by no means do i want to 'rice' the car... none of that paint my own dash white stuff..
 
i love working on cars as well, and after a few years im realizing i want to do more things in life than wrench every weekend... im 23... my project mirage is nearly complete. almost time to move into something a little more lux and awd.
 
oh yea, ofcoarse when i get out of college i'll switch to something more professional as a Daily driver. I'll prob still keep the project car get another project started. It's my hoby to work with cars, so w/e my job is, working on cars will get my stress of my back. Yea it can get annoying fixing some things you shouldnt have to fix, but nevertheless it's a hobby. Hope everything works out with your car/next car
 
Have you ever owned a RWD car? Where do you live? Does it snow there? If you decide to go the 240sx route, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, drive it for AT LEAST 4-6 months before you swap it to get a feel for a rwd car.

i totally agree with this. the order of mods for a 240 usually goes...

1)suspension
2)lsd
3)engine

i own both. i have a heavily boosted sr20, silkroad coils, 5 lug, the whole 9 yards. and i have an eg coupe. they are about as far from different as two imports can get.

In my opinion, you should make your civic extremely reliable until you get out of school. but since the money is probably burning a hole in your pocket and you are going to spend it anyways, here's my advice.

spend $5k on a nissan that is already swapped with a suspension. when you find one you like, take it to a shop to inspect it from head to toe. then leave it alone.

with the other money you have, i would finish the civic swap and be done with it. if you are a true tuner, you know it's essential to have two cars.
 
Heh i would do suspension first anywayz, it's just my civic needs work and then some, i have to fix, not including the motor(if i dont swap it):timing belt, water pump, clutch, etc., the suspension/exhaust/some minor things on the inside. I've driven rwd cars before, i move cars from city to city for my friend who's a car dealer. Yes that's not the same as "driving it daily" or driving it in "extreme circumstances" but i wouldnt street race it anywayz, and the only way you get a feel for any car is by driving it for a while. I get used to cars fast, i've been driving d/f very often since i got my learners permit. I don't street race so don't worry, no matter what car i have i'm not retarted. Now yes the two-car suggestion is great, but insurance on 2 cars isn't the best thing for a college kid. I have the money to build it and upkeep it as a daily driver, if i want to be a true tuner i'd have to wait till i'm out of college, but i'd rather jump into that title with some experience and knowledge in my head.
For the DD fact: it's not like i'm going to drive the car extensively, i'd drive it home once every other weekend..
 
then if i was you i would stick with the honda. stay on a platform you know the most about and know how to work on. i would just do the gsr swap and a few bolt ons. i would stay away from the turbo unless you are going to race it. that really adds to the theft probability to.

You know, no offense to anyone on this site, but i did not learn a single thing from starting this thread. There's no use telling me it's a stupid idea since there's a difference between constructive criticism and just plane stupid shit. I got much more help on a prelude site in one replied post then my entire thread here. It's sad to see you don't appreciate new people to the site. I understand if you call me a newb and jokengly flame a little here and there but to outright think that my questions are not of any importance is disrespectfull. I know most of you don't care that you show me disrespect. I just wanted to point out that this site was a big waste of time for me so far. Thanks for making you not a part of my decision.
 
Keep the civic.

Build an allmotor reliable daily that runs 12s and have the time of your life in a reliable car that will still pull TAIL whenever you might need it to.

If you get a 240 prepare to be associated with a bunch of no talent ass clowns.... much like you are coming off right now.


Keep the civic or sell it and buy another and mod it.
 
yeah im not very impressed with alot of the new drift kids.... i like the old school bunch aka d-faction and ctdrifting.


get a civic, like everyone else. its easy to work on and you dont seem to have much of a skill level.

get a nissan, like everyone else. its hard to work on and you will be paying out the ass for repairs.
 
Did not say i was a drift kid. and nissanninja actually had some good advice, and i'm not a clown. i acknowledge i don't know about nissans, the way to learn is research n EXPERIENCE. i don't really appreciate people who tell me to stay away from things just because i have no experience towards them. You have to start somewhere. Define skill before you go around boasting i have no skill.
 
well.. which would you rather drive? plus its always fun to dive into new things and new cars. Just cuz you get a 240 doesnt mean you have to hang with the drift kids. plus, sr20 swaps are cheaper than honda swaps and youll have more fun in it, atleast i think so.

Think of this though, does it snow where you live? are you comfortable driving a rwd car in the snow?

oh, and if i were you.. id save a 2-3 grand more and do a k swap, bolt ons, k flash, traction bars, radials and run 12's all day long :D
 
i had a civic (del sol).
i had a 240.
i sold the 240 for a civic within 6 months.

the car was, well, boring.
granted, it was mostly stock, but even me, who dumped a bazillion dollars into my del sol didn't even want to mess with the 240 because i knew i still wouldn't be happy with it.

if you have 12 grand, you can get yourself a nice e36 m3 :)

if you want to own a fucking 240sx why dont you join freshalloy or something.
