damn, i was ready to raid the mini marts and steal all the coins out of the take-a-penny tray :p

:(

well the older ones here a pure copper and worth less then a us penny
Canadian pennies prior to 1997 were approximately 98% copper and 1.75 % zinc. From 1997 to 2001, Canadian pennies were modified and were minted as copper-coated zinc wafers. A recent scanning electron microscopic examination of a 2001 Canadian penny indicated approximately 96 % zinc. Today's one-cent coin, modified in 2001, should be made of copper-plated steel (94% steel, 1.5% nickel, 4.5% copper).

one way to make money off copper is to go find closed down abandoned factories...and raid their old wires....

The best solution, Velde said, would be to "rebase" the penny by making it worth five cents rather than one cent. Doing so would increase the amount of five-cent coins in circulation and do away with the almost worthless one cent coin.

One thought that came to mind was that with no one cent coins. The stores would have to adjust there prices to break even to a numeral of five cents.

*TOTAL BULLSHIT* this wont happen.

what's wrong with rounding to the 5, hell scre nickles too, lets just use the metric system for monitary units and scientific measures. either /10 or *10

I would be digging in the couch and car for pennys if they did switch the penny to 5 cents.
BUT IT WONT HAPPEN

My parents are huge metal-detector buffs...when I was young, and since the metal-detector was invented...they would always take us to parks and place where people would normally drop change from their pockets...and they would always save everything they scooped or dug up...there is a hutch in my old house where they would put everything they found into it...and it got to the point to where nothing would fit into it any more....and it's mostly pennies.

B would have a field day if he saw their collection...:D

While this is obviusly trivial bullshit, we also dont need you retards trying to melt down coins when the next "zinc shortage" happens. Definatly on the list of sounds that make me want to punch infants.

you would not believe how much you would find with a metal-detector. Go to a park after a caravel leaves, and you'll just be beeping like crazy. Parks always turn up a lot of stuff, from watches, rings, knives, zippo's...etc. And when we went on vacations...the metal detectors were always with us. I even have an urge to go buy one and hit a few areas around my house... hehe

Around our house, (in NM) we found chain mail armor from the conquistadors, other ancient odds and ends, some that we can't even figure out what they are, and also after a good rain just walking around we find arrow heads and pottery from the old Anasazi Indians. We have 40 acres there, and they even found a burial grounds on our land. Of course our house is 7 miles from Aztec, where the great kiva's were found, and a lot of the running trails for the messengers going to the surrounding tribes are everywhere...and a few pass thru our land.
