I know most of you guys have handguns, but maybe someone knows about rifles.

I got a Yugo 59/66 SKS, and was searching around for .223 conversions. Has anyone ever seen one? I know Norinco built a SKS that shot .223 rounds but was discontinued quickly.

Maybe if I was hunting large game at close range(<100yds), then yea. But I'm looking to shoot farther..

7.62x39's cartridge is about the same size as the .223's, but the 7.62's bullet is about twice as heavy(~125gr vs. 55gr), thus much less velocity and the 7.62 will drop more at longer range.

If it was a 7.62x51, I'd definitely keep that but that cartridge is too long to fit in the SKS(next gun I buy is going to be a M1A/M14 anyways :) )

an SKS is a home protection rifle valued for it's knockdown power and infrequent jamming

buy a 30-06 or like you said an M1

what you purpose is the firearm equivilant of putting an SR20 in a civic

I wanna know who makes a quality knock off of the Heckler and Koch Mark 23

an M1A/M14 costs around $1200-$1600 new, the SKS cost me only $200.

The cartridges are about the same length, only thing that would need to be changed is probably the magazine(maybe), the barrel, and maybe the bolt.

I don't use the SKS for home protection because it'll still over-penetrate.(I can probably shoot through my whole house)

Why buy the MK23 when you can get a USP for much cheaper?

The conversion is a good idea, but the cost of that plus the gun smith = just buying a romanian SKS in .223.

half dozen in one, 6 in the other.

There's a Romanian SKS in .223? I never knew that, I guess I'll just trade.

Well, look it up - I thought there were. I thought it was the only eastern bloc country to offer .223
I could very well be wrong.

hey so would you guys go .45 cal or 40 S&W for a USP?

I always liked the 40S&W because it seems like the happy medium between the 9mil's accuracy and the .45's knockdown ability

but what do ya'll think?

.45 ACP
you'll get bored with the .40 unless you're shooting cans (mexiCANs, afriCANs, Saudi ArabiCANs :D ), It's not much more powerful than the 9mm.

Who uses a rifle for home defense? I want to pick up an sks and a m1 garand. Im going to be getting either a Springfield XD 45 compact or a Glock 30 for a carry piece
