I have a 88 lx civic with a d16z6 obd1 swap.
I was driving the other nite and reved it to 4000rpm when it bogged out. it did this several times intermitantly.
since driving the car for the first time I have always heard a popping noise from the exhaust. since it bogged out on me it sounds like the popping noise got louder. I should also add that when listening to the motor you can hear a ticking noise from the number one cylinder. a loud valve or something I am guessing.
so I plan to do a valve adjust.

my question is could this bogging @ 4000 rpm have something to possibly do with the popping noise?
also will a valve adjust fix my ticking noise and the popping noise?

How bad is the bogging?
is it like, 5-10 mph slow down, or just a slight uncomfortable bog?
does the gear your in make any difference how bad it bogs?

valve adjustment- I think it will help the ticking noise for sure. taking it completely away- maybe not. You can't really tell until you do it. luckily for us, our valve covers come off very easily, so it doesnt take much time...

okay well im thinking my bogging was from possible low fuel going up a hill. so I fueled it up and havent had it bogg yet.
as for the popping noise this is still heard from the exhaust pipe. im going to adjust the valves tommorow. if the valves do need adjustment do you think this would cure my popping noise??

a resonator would cure your popping noise.

its not a resonating popping noise. I have a resonator.
its not a loud popping noise. its just a quiet pop pop, and the motor sounds like it is running shitty. almost like a sticky exhaust valve, slight misfire, or something.

Do you have a straight pipe??

Something tells me no

lol what u mean something tells u no. I looked at my exhaust and I have one.
I did a compression test. number one cylinder loss of compression. I burnt one of the valves im guessing. what im hearing out the exhaust is the valve not sealing properly, therefore it has to be an exhaust valve or youd hear it out the intake.
it was not a popping noise because of back pressure. I got 2.5 inch pipe all the way back with a resonator and fireball muffler.

so time to rip the head off and do all the valves.

Whoops, maybe I did that wrong. I was answering smrcrx, "Do you have a straight pipe?? "

Haha....
