ok i just gt a '93 del slow, this freaking things got a 1.6 8valve motor. I cant stand it, also an automatic, but i got a sweet deal on it.

Anyways i am doing a swap to a manual this weekend, but i want to also do an engine swap, i can get a sweet deal on a d16y8 motor, with a full turbo kit all ready to go. How hard is this motor to swap into it? what would i all need just to get the motor in there working perfect? Is it even worth it?

Last Q for now i guess: What is the easiest, best fit motor swap for these del sols?

Thanks for your help guys..

well you sol should have a 16z6 in it if it's a 1.6...if you have the 1.5 i don't know, but i think it is16 valve too...but anyways, what kind of sweet deal? what's the price? how many miles? is it from ebay? many things need to be explained before anyone can give you an opinion on the motor price. as for difficulty, it should be a pretty simple drop in...you can use the same mounts and every thing except for the wiring harness and ecu. you need those to use the new engine. i'm kinda stumped on why this guy is selling this motor...do you know anything about this guy or the engine he is selling? yes the swap is worth it...if the price is right. it just takes time and patience. the easiest is imo the d16z6...good engine, good internals, boost friendly, and there are tons of aftermarket parts for it.

well i am getting the motor from a clent of mine, with turbo everything, it will cost me 500. its in his car right now, and works great. he is selling cause he is doing a b18 swap instead i guess - plus he owes me some money.

I atually just broke the timing belt on my motor the other day, and believe me, my motor is a 1.6 8 valve, i never knew del sol's came with this motor, but thats whats in it. Maybe somewhere in its life, it got swaped, i dont know, but thankfully it was the 8 valve, or i would still be stuck in arkansas finding a motor, and replacing it. But seeing it was the 8 valve, when the timing belt broke, nothing got hurt.

But basically if i want to do the d16y8 swap, all i need, is the motor, wiring harness, and ecu? and then whatever i am going to do with the tranny situation?

all 5spd d series trannys will work if you have the 5spd tranny already just use it it will bolt right up

thanks, but i was talking about if i am still going to do the auto to manual swap, or leave it manual, but i think i decided to do the swap to make it a 5spd

yeah, trust me, you'll be very pleased with the auto to manual swap. manuals are a whole lot more fun to drive and they can handle more power.
