I finally did it. As much as it pained me to hit the checkout button i willingly spent $1,200 on a new computer. Wish me luck.

Cooler Master Cavalier

Note, my case has a piece of duct tape over the power on light....that damn thing kept me awake for MONTHS.

LOL!!!

Can't go wrong with a CoolerMaster case.

was that sarcasm or were you laughing at the duct tape thing. cause seriously, this case is NICE. Kicks ass on SO MANY LEVELS.

I was laughing about the duct tape. My Stacker case (also a Coolermaster) has blue LEDs that are unbelievably bright. Fortunately I do not have to sleep in the same room with the case.

i cant wait, im already takin my shit outa my old case....im too excited....too bad its gonna be friday/monday before i get my stuff. Hopefully newegg's shipping is as reliable as ever.

Newegg always ships fast. Never had an issue with them.

Me either, but the only thing ive bought from newegg (thats time sensitive) is.....well my last computer. And they used FedEx then. I know i could use fedex again, but $20 to ship UPS was too good to pass up.

OMG....going through my last computer build up is depressing.

Bleh, oh well, not too bad all things considered. My last build was $900.

Looks like ill have the monitor Friday, but i wont get the rest until monday. Looks like ill have something to look forward to when i get off work.

I see you went with a DS3 instead of that eVGA mobo; good choice! Saved about $100?

Also, nice pick on the PSU. Is it modular? FYI, Frys has an Antec Trio 650W w/quad 12V and is made by Seasonic for $60 AR; alot of positive reviews and by far better than the crappy SmartPower they were making.

Anyway, good luck with the build. Hope everything goes smoothly. Put up some pics and benchmark numbers :D

where can i download a benchmark? i would like to see how my radeon performs with overclocking :)

CPU:
SuperPi
Super PI Mod

Video+CPU:
3DMark
Futuremark

My Rig:
AMD 3000+ Venice @ 2.4ghz
1GB RAM w/ 3:4 Dividers @200mhz
eVGA 7600GS

SuperPI: 37 secs
3DMark05: 4300 or something like that

I had to come to reality on a few things. The BIOS is apparently still buggy on the 680i and the tuning tool doesnt work as well as nVidia claimed (im sure it will with further revisions). Im only gonna use one GPU, so i really dont need anything that is SLI/Crossfire ready. The 965 is a good chip, and the BioStar TForce was sold out at newegg, so i went with the DS3.

I picked the power supply because it was the best 500w+ psu i could find for under $100, that didnt have lights, and was a make/model i trusted. I wanted a modular PSU, but damnit all the good modular ones put me that much more in debt. Rebates are cool, but i usually dont take advantage of them.

I dont remember if i made a post about it, but someone broke into my car earlier this month (well last month now) and it did wacky things to my budget for the new build (meaning i lost $350 buck for a new window and a head unit).

I plan to COMPLETELY document this build as a how-to for people that have never built a computer. I completely took my case back to the way i got it from newegg 2 years ago, and im gonna go through how to install fans, hard drives, cables, etc etc. Im only gonna post it on HS, cause its pointless to put in other forums that i troll. I just get sick and tired of people (*cough*B*cough*) paying more money to have someone else build their rig when they can do it cheaper themselves. Not to mention its a lot more fun to build your own computer. If you guys can take apart and rebuild an engine a weekend, a computer should be no sweat.

We'll see what the benchmarks look like. I dont plan on going over 400MHz FSB. I know the board can take it (might require a slight voltage adjustment to the cpu) and i KNOW the ram can take it on stock voltage. So, we'll see how it turns out. Hopefully the build will help with my insomnia too. I think the reason i dont sleep much is because i actually live in my bed....eat, watch tv, use the computer....and never get outa bed except to pee. Ive gotten very good at NOT getting crumbs in my bed.

 Good idea.

I was going to do that for my computer build, but i was too lazy to take pictures and write tutorials. Im still in the process of gathering junk for my MAME box. I can post stuff if people want but itll be a long process because finding or building the cabinet is a pain in the ass.

:confused::confused::confused:

way over my head..

this talk is like a foreign language to me

It wont be come monday or tuesday (assuming all my parts make it through UPS' WONDERFUL shipping department in 1 piece). You will know more about how to build a computer than you will about how to get a JDM B16 to pass BAR.

i finally broke down and did it.

Ubuntu is on the laptop....We'll see if i decide to but Gentoo on here yet.

One reason you should seriously consider Gentoo.

Emerge.

ewww gnome, you should check out kubuntu. well for e anyway I like kde much better.

sabz you don't think emerge and aptitude are equals ?? I love how apt handles dependencies.
