WASHINGTON - A "very damning" report by the Defense Department's inspector general depicts a Pentagon that purposely manipulated intelligence in an effort to link Saddam Hussein to al-Qaida in the runup to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, says the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"That was the argument that was used to make the sale to the American people about the need to go to war," said Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich. He said the Pentagon's work, "which was wrong, which was distorted, which was inappropriate ... is something which is highly disturbing."

Some Democrats also have contended that Feith misled Congress about the basis of the administration's assertions on the threat posed by Iraq, but the Pentagon investigation did not support that.

LOL, I'm surprised this is news. The Iraq/Bin Laden connection was something the US had wrong for a long time

I was receiving intel briefs about this "connection" while Clinton was in office

This is really all politics, the Dems just can't wait to get the GOP back for holding Clinton's feet to the fire over Monicagate

just like capitol hill is in a stand still over this "Non binding" resolution in Iraq. Arguing over something which is nothing more then a non binding statement

meanwhile Katrina, Health care, Social Security, Iran, Iraq, N Kora, the war on terror, and global warming all go unresolved

thanks Congress

Monicagate was a waste of money and something that really shouldn't have happened.

That was a GOP last ditch effort.

Of course there's no Al'Q-Iraq connection. As I have said many times before, Al'Qeada and the Ba'ath are blood enemies.

lmfao, you expect them to handle all this shit in less than 2 months when the repub's worked for 6 years+ on it?

:bash:

if they wanted revenge they would impeach bush

is the Defense Department's inspector general a democrat?

umm no

but it would be nice if they could start working on them

6 months from now the sole purpose on capitol hill will be Palosi trying to impeach Bush, watch it go

and Monicagate wasn't a total waste, President Clinton committed Perjury, that any President lying under oath cannot be overlooked

There are four problems with the charges that Clinton committed perjury.

First, Starr never provided convincing evidence that it was Clinton’s intention to lie, rather than he was mistaken, confused, or honestly believed his interpretation of the court’s definitions.

Second, many of the alleged perjury charges were immaterial (irrelevant) to the case, and cannot be prosecuted.

Third, many of Clinton’s answers were technically true.

Fourth, the Republicans have taken the odd position that where Clinton and Lewinsky’s testimony differ, it must be Clinton who is lying. They conveniently neglect the possibility that Lewinsky might be lying, mistaken, confused, exaggerating the level of her romance, or coerced into her testimony by Starr’s heavy threats of prosecution. We know that Lewinsky entertained highly unrealistic fantasies, like Clinton would leave his wife for her. She also told her friends, family and therapist stories that were either clear lies or fantasies, like she and Clinton had sex in the Oval Office without any clothes on, that the president invited her to accompany him to Martha's Vineyard while the first lady was out of the country, and that the Secret Service took the president to her apartment for a tryst. Her testimony is therefore far from certain.

clinton lied and nobody died...
it was a complete fucking waste of time and money
talk about not getting shit done

you won't even see this news story for what it is will you?

blah

Even if this all pans out true the war was still legal under UN resolutions

the worst they have here is that the president spun information in support of his cause

A politician? spinning information? never

in reality there will probably not even be any factual information linking the President directly to any spinning of Intel, these things are thought out well in advance

Mark my words, this will be a waste of time and money. We should concentrate on what can still be done to improve the Iraq situation so that we can work towards stabilizing the region and decreasing our footprint.

tell that to the families of all the dead soldiers...
i'm pretty sure they'll find it a much bigger deal than you are

excuse the fuck out of me but my family and friends are in Iraq and they believe the cause of freedom to be worth dying for

unlike their countrymen they are not lacking in spine

too bad that sentiment is not shared by all soldiers
i think many would agree that iraqi's freedom is not their fucking problem

and mr bush never said, lets go to iraq to free the iraqi people

the war was not sold the american people as a freedom campaign
That was the argument that was used to make the sale to the American people about the need to go to war
arguement was saddam's link to al-q, not freedom for the poor people of iraq
so let keep this on topic
