i'm trying to pick what motor swap i should go with,b16a1 or zc it will go into a crx hf. i know the zc is a simple swap but b16 is more power. it's going in my daily driver so i'm not looking for crazy hp but i would like to know it there! so if anyone knows the diffrence in whp on the two stock motor please let me know!!!!!!!!! thanx bob

that zc with i/h/e will be a mid 14 second car...that's pretty quick. if you are planning on turboing the car some time, i say zc with some lower compression pistons. go with the zc... the engines put about the same power to the ground. check the stats:

JDM zc://////////////////////// B16A:
137@6800 hp /////////////////158@7600 hp
108@5700 tq /////////////////112@7000 tq
9.5:1 compression ratio ////10.2:1 compression ratio
75x90 bore/stroke //////////81x77.4 bore/stroke
dohc non vtec, obd0 ///////dohc vtec, obd0

not to mention that the b16 is gonna cost way more...with the extra money you save you could go buy a nice exhaust, header, and intake and still have money left over to take the missus out to dinner!

B16A: 2,000+ for complete swap

ZC: 750 for a complete swap

zc motors suck. they are cheap and really really old. if you want to stay single cam, i would consider getting a d16z6 and wiring up vtec. it would be cheap, easy and give you decent power.

if you have a little more money, i would get the b16. still an easy swap, but you would get a lot better results from it. b16 crx's are fun little cars.

yeah the d16z6 is a good engine, i would do it rather than a zc... i have one that puts down 400 hp and 370 tq reliably.

thanxs for the info, but still up in the air????? you said 750 for a zc swap, where, the cheapest i found was 1,000 but that was with shipping. if you know a good place for both motors, links would be helpful! thanx bob

Hi i have a zc ill sell runs good. burns no oil its sitting in my room all nice and clean ready to go with trans even axels if you want .I bought it for my crx and i have a turbo kit i bought for it to ill sell u all if u want or just the motor? what ever. around $750 for all or $350 for just the motor and trans let me no?
im in Ontario Canada

sounds good man, but still after shiping [if you will ship] it' going to be over a grand, and i'm not quit there yet, i wish i was ,sounds like a great deal!! and i still have not decided zc or b16, but if you have the time to check shipping to 22849 that woud great! THANX ALOT bob

All I can say to you is that ^ is an amazing deal. if you were to try and buy that yourself it would probably run you about $2000 not including shipping and install. if I were you I would make some kind of deal with them so that maybe they will hold onto it for you possibly. you never know unless you ask.

in terms of the zc or the B16A1 I personally am choosing the B16 because it puts out alot more power stock and it can only go up with Performance bolt ons and such. I mean who wouldnt want 160HP and 107TQ. I know I do. but then Again Im also driving my civic with only 95HP and even less TQ.

Yeah b16 is a bit better if your just sticken with that. but if your going Turbo . then id go ZC like if u have a good zc not many ks and boost it u can get 180 hp safe and if that not good enough crank it to 10 psi and spank any b16 u want.

i still think you should consider the d16z6 swap. it will be cheaper, and it will give you more power. you can find one locally to and not worry about shipping.

the stock DOHC ZC will be a lot quicker than any stock SOHC D-series
how do you figure? they are the same power numbers. but even if there is a minute power difference, the stock d series would be cheaper and easier to swap.

how do figure SOHC cheaper and easier? in order to get the most powerful SOHC, you are going to need to have a VTEC, which means you are going to need to convert to OBD1, which means you need to get a OBD0 to OBD1 ECU conversion harness (money) - OBD1 VTEC ECUs go for alot more money than the OBD0 ECU needed for the ZC - DOHC ZC bolts right in and you can get them fairly cheap - the power difference is not minute - don't go by "advertised" power numbers - look at actual dyno charts - here is dyno chart for a stock D16Z6 with I/H/E:
D16Z6dyno2-1.jpg

now, compare that with dyno chart for a stock DOHC ZC with I/H/E
DOHCZCdyno3-1.jpg

are those on the same dyno? those sohc vtec numbers look low.

all he needs is the z6 longblock and ecu and harness. his tranny will bolt up. plus it will be easier to get parts for a stock honda engine. he is looking at spending at least $1000 on the zc. it's just my personal opinion though.

you don't have to have a dohc to make beastly power... my d16z6 is pushing 400 hp and 370 tq. after the pnp, bored tb, new cam, and some 550's i'll be around 450 ish with a good tune.

wow i didn't mean to start a war! one of you said the d16 numbers looked low, what should they be? where i live there not alot of junkyards with imports if there are any there picked clean quick,so i'll have to pretty much order anything i get. to crx666 it's a great deal, but my wife just lost her job the other day so moneys thight. if not i'd be all over it!!!! sorry for the pause, war on! war on! thanx bob
