I purchased a Jeep in October 2005. Immediatly there was smaill problems.
1. 1 cluster bulb is out on dash
2. Tranny shutters from 25-0 stop. If i go past 25 its ok coming to a complete stop.
3. This thing is a pig on gas... 17 mpg
4. Purchased it as a 4x4 jeep, but turns out someone put the handle on it to control it but no front differential
5. Tires sucked ass

so to fix these, I replaced the bulb and bought new tires. I have a warrenty service and I am too lazy to go get it checked out. So basically i am stuck in a situation here.

I dont make great money by any means but i can hold my own with my paycheck. Right now i put 400 on the Jeep Every month without a problem. When my payments are 240 a month it helps out alot. So i have taken a small chunk out of what i owe.

12,500 - Base Price with taxes/tags/title
1400 - 100k full warrenty
500 - Tire warranty for life of vehicle

I now owe 12,800 on it. So if i sell it the warranties are refundable. So what i owe is 10,900 for it. I would expect a trade in of about 8-9k so i am at a 2k loss. Would it be benifitial for me to trade this bitch in and get a new car, or be unsatisfied and keep it till i pay more down on it. Either way I take a loss here.

I am just stuck on what to do. I am sure if i go to the dealership and let them know my story there is a possiblity of gettings a new car under a slight discount. But I am just not satisfied with my car. I am stuck between sliding around in snow in a Jeep until my pending doom :( or trading it in and taking a loss. What would you guys suggest. Oh and i have about.. 1600 cash i can play with, but i am not spending nearly that much on a car and insurance. I am looking to stay right around 300 for the car a month and insurance hoping for 200 or less a month. ( 5 tickets, 0 points) So i can still live comfortably.

Discuss.

well if you are unhappy with it, then go ahead and get rid of it. sure you owe more than its worth and with the problems it has, its going to make it worth less on trade-in. id do some casual looking around at the car lots and if you find something you like, then see about trading it in. you may have to use that $1600 or a portion of it as a down payment which will help the deal on the vehicle you want to get. thats pretty much all i did but i didnt trade a vehicle in tho. it took me about 2 months before i was able to find a car that i liked, in my price range and was easy on gas. and what sweetened the deal for me was that i got a 2 year loan on it as well which is pretty hard to get from what i understand plus i was able to stay in my budget for a car. car in question was a loaded 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 hatchback. i love driving that little car...almost more than i like driving my truck. lol. anyways, good luck with your quest and maybe you will find something you like soon. :)

Did you buy it from a dealer? Did the window sticker say 4wd on it? If so, and its a 2wd, i'd threaten to sue. Thats a $2-3k price difference in book value.

That's some serious BS.

I'd of taken it back the day I found that out.

But that's me.

Do what you gotta do. If you think taking a 1800 dive is worth your safety jump on it. IF you don't sit in the pos. Your choice.

4. Purchased it as a 4x4 jeep, but turns out someone put the handle on it to control it but no front differential

Wrong. Installing that part of the system is a complete harness change in the truck itself. More likely that the front diff blew, and was hollowed out of it's gear.

Sue sue sue sue sue sue sue sue. Seriously you gotta talk to a lawyer. That car is a piece.

I should because i am slightly upset. I bought the thing in october, and havent had snow or a need to use it since then. So when i got some great all terrains tires put on, he said there is no front differential. We are pending about 6-8 inches tomorrow. At the dealer, the sitcker siad 2wd, i thought it was a misprint because the dash does light up 4wd. So I just conitnued on with the purchae of it. But now me being nieve fucked myself. I am actually contemplating putting in a rear locker. To hep with the grip of the rear wheels, and saying fuck it. Locker will cost me 600-700 and it will be just as capable as a 4wd vehicle. So needless to say i am keeping it. Any suggestions on V6 milage improvements? :)

Even a Jeep that works isn't worth keeping.

shitcan that thing. Trust me, I've owned several jeeps.

And now I'm an Ex-Neon guy, I gave it a shot, I really tried. But I concluded that these cars fail. I have rights to say that they are complete pieces of shit.

No Steve, I understand where your coming from with jeeps, All these problems besides the 4wd could be fixed if i didnt put off going to the dealer to get them fixed. I have an awesome warrenty. And the bitch still pulls my jet skis with ease. So i may just install the locker and lower that bitch :p TrailorParkPimp style minus the primer :)

are you fucking serious??????
the window sticker said 2wd and you bought it for 4wd?
you didn't think to look under the front of it?

thats why you test the 4wd on your test drive.

but to answer your thread, i would trade it in on something reliable. probably even something brand new if you can afford it.

Yeah im serious, i needed a car bad, the price was right, and i thought it was a misprint. I figured why would it light up and not be 4wd. Shoot me, im didnt research my car. I had X amount of money i wanted to spend it was in the price range and i bought it. Nexttime i guess ill get a baby blue crx... and be cool.

see what the dealer will offer. tell them about it not being 4wd and give it a shot. you might be able to get something newer for the same price even after you have used and abused it. don't just let it slide though. you'll be mad at yourself in the end if you dont' do anything about it.

nice little jab, but my mazda with 33's has 2 shifters, and the 4wd works...

take the loss now and get something you'll be happy with

and its not a crx

Thats true, I still want to keep the Jeep though. I am just gonna take it to the dealer and have them fix all these issues in the up coming week. I feel the locker would help, it is bacically an electronic lsd. Where i hit a switch and both wheels work together. So i feel that is what i would need to naviagte through the snow. I am not an off roading type, but i needed towing for my Jet Skis and my dads boat. I just wonder though if i spend the money on a decent locker @ $600, would that be benifitial or take a possible 2k loss.

Oh and i was making a joke :p It wasnt a jab... lol. I am not a little emo boy. I can take criticism.

locker isn't gonna help that much, still no weight in the back of the vehicle
gets some mean ass snow tires with nice cleats
all season = 3 season

1. They quit making real jeeps in 2001 when they discontinued the Cherokee for the Non-Jeep Liberty
2. V6, Independant Front Suspension, 2wd does not = Jeep, it equals a pile of shit.
3. Buy a used cherokee, I got my 01 Cherokee Sport for $10K. 4wd works like a charm, It has 2 solid axles, the Inline 6, 4.0L engine has mad torque, and It gets 20 mpg on the highway. I'm sorry you got ripped off, but damn, did you ever get RIPPED OFF.
