blah when you're in the military you agree (on paper) to live to a moral code above civilians

That's why (one of many reasons) our soldier class should be respected above the general person

oh yeah, she sounds like a dude to.

haha, i don't know if silverchild had this, but i remember in basic training they would yell at us and if we looked them in the eye they would say shit like, "why are you staring at me? do you think i'm cute? do you want to fuck me"

my reply would have been. "yes, right in the ass"

Yes but the scarriest moment of my life way in basic training

we were putting away our stuff and were told to stand at attention with our money in our right hand.

Female TI: What's in your hand trainee?

ME: *holds up hand* it's my money ma-

Female TI: Why the fuck did you raise your hand, are you going to assulat me?

*every TI in the room (half dozen or so) runs over and start screaming at me*

lol awwww memories

My boy said a female drill instructor drown a kid during some drill in Marine basic. They wrote it up as a training accident.

As for the chick in Playboy, I'm not into chicks with better ab definition then me.

This ought to spark a mean debate, but I disagree.

I respect a person for who they are, not what they are. If you are a soldier, I will respect what you do and respect you as a person who has the courage to do what it is you do. However to put you above all other people, that is something I will not do. You chose to be a soldier, you chose to live to that moral code. I myself could have done the same thing, I simply chose not to. That does not make me any less of a person than anyone else.

My military buddies agree with me. I see what our soldiers do as a great thing, however it is still a job. Just like I have a job, just like most everyone else has a job. We're all Americans and we all do our part to keep this country moving, no matter how big or small.

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal."

The respect comes from the fact that they (everyone of the individually) have signed their life away to protect your freedom, even if you choose to act like an asshat they have agreed to die to protect you and your freedom to live as an asshat...

if that isn't enough to earn your respect for "who they are" then I'd hate to see your standards

Sabz hates service people.

Spoken like a true conservative. I say I respect them and treat them like equals and somehow that means that I hate them.

That means I must hate the majority of my family as well, being 85% military themselves.

They chose to do that. That was a conscious decision made by them. Now, where did I say that they do not have my respect? Please show me this. I said I respect who they are.

I respect a person for who they are... If you are a soldier, I will respect what you do and respect you as a person who has the courage to do what it is you do.

Treating a person like an equal, in a country that is founded on equality of the people, is acting like an asshat? What crack are you smoking? What I will not do is put one person above the rest of the people in this country, regardless of what it is they do. We are equals and I will treat you as an equal.

Those men and women do not expect preferential treatment because they serve their country. They are, in the words of many who serve our country, "just doing their job". You serve your country? You put yourself in harm's way for my sake? I respect you for that. Thank you for all that you do. What you do demands great respect and gratitude, but it does not demand that you be put above the other citizens of your country.
