This is why everyone over 60 should be retested

I was witness to a guy who was 28 doing the same thing on Rt 8.

I always said you should get retested to apply for social security and every 5 years there after. Basically making that age bracket retest because they aren't all as smart as my friend's grandma. She is closing in on legally blind and simply stopped driving because of it.

exactly why these age groups should be retested. i was on my way to pool yesterday. i was on 91 north and i was doing about 80. a guy in his 60s was doing 40 in the passing lane...
That happened to me about a month ago. It was the slow lane though. Still the speed limit is 65, wtf are you doing at 40? Oh and did I mention his taillights were out? Plus this is NJ. There are 3 lanes on the GSP, slow/right is 70mph, middle is 75mph, fast/left is 80-85mph. and if I'm doing 80 in the left lane and someone is doing 85 behind me, I get out of their way. I still think the driver's test should cost more and be 10X harder. Not everyone deserves the right to drive.

i totally agree with u. about 6 years ago i was behind my grandmother on 691. i was following behind her doing about 65, for no reason at all she slammed on her breaks. i almost rolled my jeep trying not to hit her. my parents were right behind me and my dad had to talk to her and take her licence away from her.

I think that older people are on the brakes an awful lot. My mom rides the clutch and whenever her foot isn't on the accelerator, it's hovering above the brake.

It's really from the time that she learned to drive. Back then that's how you learned. It's a hard habit to break unless you give constant thought to it. And not a lot of women, or people really, give thought to the way they drive.

My dad is a nutcase on the highway, he drives fast and is usually the fastest around but he hangs out in the fast lane. Now he has a Jeep with STIFF suspension / body and he's all the way to the right more often.

But my mom has been known to give me brake checks and shit, drive down a mountain with the brakes lightly on, or other "level 3 violations". But she still drives a standard trans, rev matches and remembers how to drive a 1942 Studebaker.

my grandfather still drives at the age of 70... he has HORRIBLE eye problems. His depth perception is a little out of wack and he has "holes" or visible blind (black) spots in his vision. Old people will never listen to younger people, atleast not my Navy Korean vet grandfather who is still living with the 50/60's mentality :p

My friend Bob has only one good eye and he's a better driver than most people.

I REALLY hate the soccer moms that drive huge SUVs because "if I get into an accident, I know I'll survive" or "It just makes me feel safe". Yea tell that to the kid in the civic that you plowed into because you don't know how to drive the thing.

shit i am legally blind in my left eye, with no porifial vision. so when i am on the bike it is very hard for me to wear my helmet and ride. but when your best friend is E it makes you want to wear one.... but still i have no problem riding or driving...

I think it was two winters ago that I was just getting onto an on ramp when a car with Canadian plates came down it the wrong way, going about 5mph with its blinkers on... An old couple was in the car yelling at each other with a map in their hands. :D

lmao i just remembered, a while E and i were going down 72 expressway and some ass hole was going the wrong way doing about 70 mph in the fast lane. E had just changed lanes he was doing about 65. that was some scary shit.

"Re-tested" wouldnt make a shit. A monkey with down syndrome could pass a state driving test.

Another good point... We need to adopt Germany's driving tests. Although the country would fall apart if 90% of the population suddenly couldn't legally drive. :) We'd have to ease into it... Immediate for new drivers, and maybe a year's leeway for existing drivers to up their skills. Then if they can't pass, oh well.
