b16 head swap worth it?

jdm b18c1 w/ b16a3 head. I know it'll bump the compression thus giving some more power, but with only doing i/h/e is it really worth it? Are there other supporting mods that are necessary? (i mean besides the b16 dist etc) Would it neeeed to be custom tuned as well? Does a .3 bump in compression really make the stock ecu insufficient? Modifications on the b18 wont go beyond i/h/e because it'll be the daily.

Just to double check, id use alllll the head parts from the b16 (dist, im, tb, header) and the b18 head studs, correct? Is a 15hp increase typical of a head swap on top of the bolt ons?

/noob :p^_^

I dont know if it would be worth your time really. You do gain slight compression with the b16 head, however the gsr head has better cams. So without throwing the gsr cams in the b16 head I dont think there will be much of a power gain if any. Also if you are using the p72 ecu will it throw codes for the secondary butterfly crap if it is missing since that manifold wont work on a b16 head?? If your wanting a reliable daily driver, it sounds like you already have a good thing going. I wouldnt mess that up if i were you. But thats just my 2 cents.:)

i thought the gsr head gave more CR?

You are right!! I got them mixed up the gsr head has a slightly smaller combustion chamber, boy i feel stupid. But some people say the b16 head flows a little better. But like i said earlier i think hes better off leaving the way he has it.

yeah, im thinking its too much work for little to no gain, its just a daily nothing crazy. gsr cr is 10.1, according to cspeed's calculator with a b16 head itll bump to 10.3-something.

yes the b16 has a compression ratio to 10.2 :1 nearly perfect as for the b18 normally 9.4 :1 so the b16 uses the compression and all the factors more efficianlty than any of the honda motors. im putting down about 210 on my honda with a b16 with very simple mods and exsact tunning.. with b18c5 cams an under drive UR main pully, A light weight flywheel, and a Type R integra fat tube
DC sports header.. all you have to do is fine tune the valve lash EXACTLY.. my heads compleatly reabuilt with the vavle guids replaced. a new Vtec Solinoid. and a walbro 255 fuel pump.. its not about the mods you put on.. its how effective you make the mods and how you tune them to work together ...the whole reason honda engines are able to make about 100 hp per litre .. in this case about 120 or so.. its all figuring out the design and improving on it to make it work more efficantly instead of slapping a bunch of mods on at once and not fine tunning them! so th b16 is the way to go

you do realize he's talking about heads not the actual b16 engine itself right? your talking about an LS b18. gsr has way more compression than that. by the way i call BS on your lightly modded b16 making 210whp. I barely made 200whp on my fully built lsvtec. And yes it was tuned. I even had big cams and higher comp. pistons than a stock b16.The b16 just doesnt have the displacement to make that power without going EXTREME with the serious bolt ons outside and inside the motor.

hey sheanny nizzle just keep your motor the way it is man. sell the head and save your money for when you really want to buid something out of it. Hell if you want higher compression just keep your head and go with a thinner cometic HG. 12.1 FTW!!!!!!!:D
