RETIRED
If you remember my post a couple weeks back, moms got hit in her lumina.
they gave her 1000 bucks for the repair....... which would probably cover it, but they are just going to keep the cash and trade in the car as it is. its not worth much anyway, so pocketing the cash is probably the best thing to do.

MY mom is a die-hard chevy chick for some reason.... and whats out there now from them? the cobalt, the imp, and the malibu. :lame:

so, i need to convince her to get something else.

Problems:

- my parents are cheap. very cheap. They want to pay like 15 grand for a new car (totally unreasonable, i know.. even the chevys are mid 20's).
- must be automatic. my mom can, but doesn't want to drive stick to work every day.
- 4 doors. Don't know why, but she still wants it.... no more kids. but hey, i guess thats what she wants.
- rwd is probably out of the question. Even more so, something with summer tires is probably out of the question. She's a FWD all-season'er kinda person.

They DO get the GM discount from my grandfather, which is why they've mostly been chevy people.

I suggested the saab 9-3 aero 2.8.
4 doors, decent MPG, good looks, sporty yet communty, GM discount applies

But, i don't think she's going to go for it. The car is probably too 'loud' for her. She is far more conservative.

Any suggestions?

i bought my mom a buick lesabre last mothers day, there real nice cars and as far as my 2 cents they have the best american motor 3800, but there super easy to drive

how about a Pontiac G6 sedan? they look nice and are sorta in their price range.

My mom has approx 2001 elantra
great little cars, cheap, 100K warranty
her's is getting near 100K so she's going to get another one and sell this one
really a smart plan for people on a budget/limited funds, that just want a cheap reliable car with all the features...
good MPG, decently peppy, 4 door, auto
airbags, anti lock brakes, power windows

HHR is a good car... Also, tell her to look into Off Leases or Program Cars. Program cars are usually great deals... 10-15k miles on them, for 20% - 30% less than new.

isn't the hhr more of an suv? she doesn't want that.

mom's has 0 use for "SS" or anything "GT". she does the speed limit, tops.

buick is a little too 'old' for her i think....

G6 is an idea.... how's the interior on those things?

My fiance paid less than 20k for her G6. Good on gas for a v6, sporty, bigger, its good on long trips. We drive from NC to NY frequenty, its a 700+ mile drive.

well i bet she would like the nissan maxima like a 01+ modle

Its comfortable and big, which is why I like it, has the usual lumbar support depending on model. I don't get any back problems on long trips. Can fit the dog in the back and have plenty of room for lugage, if your parents travel.

sounds good. i'll have her check it out. sounds like a similar car to the lumina euro that she crashed :p

How about a late-'90s 328i?

too old... i think the oldest she'll go for is an 05. something CPO or similar at best. plus RWD probably isn't the best for moms here in the North east. she won't have a beater for winter... and i'm sure she won't want to change to snow tires every year. fwd is the better choice for her.

[offering no help]

I dunno what to tell you, my mom drove a chevy lumina minivan, when that died she got a ford ranger 4x4, when she wrecked that she got an optioned to hell and back Chevy Blazer.

My suggestion would be a Vibe, they start @ like 17k though... if price plays the biggest role and it has to be a GM, how about the Aveo? 5 door starts at $10,500 and the sedan starts at $12,500...just throwing out suggestions. If she is willing to go with another brand, I vote for a Mazda 3 :)

I vote G6. I looked into them. I know she is probably not about HP but it has the most HP in its class. And it is 2nd in mpg averaging around 26-28mpg. Plus 100,000 mile warrenty. The interior is modern...

it looks nice and has a great cd player layout. If a G6 is too much or too big, try a G5. More like a Cobolt than a Malibu. My best friend owns a G5 and gets 30 mpg and it is a stylish car. I like a little larger awd car, so i opted for the Fusion. I am sure you get the X plan at work B. If not i can give you my x plan code and get you like 1000 ish off of a Ford. Not saying she would want it but i get 2 discounts a year to give out. So if she is a chevy fan... the G6 is the way to go.

the new altimas are pretty nice. 4 doors, decent power, don't look bad.
