I have a 88 CRX SI and I was hoping to swap motors and replace the thing with a B16A2 series. I have read a bunch of info on the net and have come to the conclusion that I am confused. After reading pages and pages of articles some of them often debunk one another. I am not trying to get all crazy with some exotic swap either. It looks like this swap is going to be one of the easier ones but at this point I am really unsure of myself when it comes to what I need to get the job done right the first time.

This car is parked and is a project and it is by no means my main source of transportation.

I am looking for some information and or maybe a guide to what I will need during the swap as well as other things that are needed for the swap.

Thanks for your time in advance and sorry for the noob post. I tried the search feature and read many things but really could not find anything to sum it all up.

Edit: 5sp man trans if that helps. It has the original engine in it as well.
Ok after reading about the ZC motor my eyeballs are bleeding lol. It seems it would be the easiest. Im so confused

What you want is a b16a SiR I. It matches the obd version of your vehicle and is a pretty straight forward swap or if you wanted 1.8 liters then you could go with a b18a1 from a 90 to 91 integra so the obd versions aslo match. Keep in mind that the b18a1 isn't veeetek y0.

First off I bought my swap from that place and got ripped the fuck off. Specializing in JDM-USDM Engines & Parts...hmotorsonline.com to get your swap. Some guy on here is also selling swaps at a good price and I think most people have been happy with him from what I read. As far as what you need... I believe other than what comes with it you will need mounts and that's it.

The ZC would be easier AND cheaper, since you don't have to buy mounts and the engine itself is cheaper. You will have less stock HP than a B16, but If you use the money you save to buy performance mods for the ZC, you can surpass a stock B16 easily. The ZC has way better $$/HP ratio, but without the B series you won't get any pussy. /sarcasm

Just to make sure thus us the ZC you were talking about.

I actually found some of these engines at various places today around Atlanta so it seems like getting one local would not be much of a problem. The B series is plentiful also but the two have a huge price difference. Since I planned on a full rebuild and such I think I will go with the ZC engine. It looks like this one is a direct bolt on and looks to be truly just a swap with my CRX.

Thanks for all the input thus far. You folks are educating me and making me look at other options that I had no idea exsisted. ^_^

I got the JDM B16a1 in my 91 Crx si and I love it...You want to stay generation 1 engines because everything above that has hydro tranny and we have cable tranny. Also like you said you will need different axles that sounds about right on the year. The only change in wiring would be if you wanted a different ECU like a P28 or P30 then you would need OBD1 conversion which I got mine from Rywire.com...I have a 4-1 header,500hp rated mounts, exhaust, intake, blox cams, lowering springs and shocks, GSR intake manifold, slim battery, chipped p28 and some other odds and ends and I spent somewhere around 5 grand depending on money and what good bargains you can depends on what you can do to your car......

Yeah and I dont think the average zc swapped rex is going to touch it. Dont buy a zc if you have the money for a b16... vtec isn't the only difference.

Go w/ the B16a1 it stay with the same OBD0 and the only thing you will need to buy is different axles 90-93 integra axles..if you want a different ecu like a P28 then you need to do a OBD0 to OBD1 conversion..you can find different mounts at just about any website. just think the lightest honda ever made w/ a dohc vtec hitting it a 5300 rpm= bad a$$ car

I would listen to this guy if you have the money for the B16 swap I would do it.

I think you right after more research. I just dont want to f this up and regret what I have done down the road. Back to research!

OK this is it I guess:
http://hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30001

I could not find the same one around town anywhere so I guess I will have to give them a call and see when they might get one in stock or if I can go ahead and pay for it and wait?

As far as I know all I will need is:

B16A 88-91 (SiR I) Motor, Trans and Computer
Axles from the 90-93 Integra
So I am hoping to just have to drop it in and go.

The only thing that concerns me is not knowing what kind of performance parts to get. Say I wanted some new fuel rails and new intake/manifold, I have no idea what to order. (Integra,Civic,Crx etc.)

Thanks again for having some patience with a noob.

Forgot one thing, the motor mounts. The only ones I could find were made by Avid and they ran for about $325. Is this correct or am I missing something.

On another note I found this place near where I use to work but i was wondering if anybody knew anything about them. I know they have been around for a long time and I have not heard anything bad about them but I have been screwing around with vw's for the last 5-8 years lol.

Mahdavi Motorsports

They said they could get what I need for $1695 plus shipping but that seems high from everything else I have seen but the benefit is they are close to my house and if they try to screw me I could always go burn the place down lol.

The first link you posted is the incorrect setup. You want the COMPLETE swap not just the motor trans and ecu. USE HMOTORSONLINE.COM I have never heard one damn complaint out of that website. Also a company I think called onaka? someone correct me if I am wrong sells the mounts you need on ebay I believe. My room mate swapped a b18a1 into an 88 civic and ran into the same issue with mounts and cost. I think we ended up getting his for 130 bucks or something and they were pretty solid. Also I have a brand new set of teg axles in the boxes that I will sell you for 70 shipped, pm if interested.

EDIT: order this http://hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30002 or the honda gods will strike you down and your car shall never again work!!

Thanks for looking out for a noob. I dropped them a email seeing if they were going to get any soon.

As far as performance parts go you can swap all kinds of GSR Intrega parts onto the B16 like B18 Intake manifold, GSR cams, tings like that... Your on the right track...I got my motor mounts on Honda-tech from a kid in NC he drove half way and I paided $100 not to bad...

Make sure you get the complete full-swap...

Hey Skillz if he dont want those axles I'll take them off your hands

The axles are in my parents shed but I will go snap some pics for you tomorrow. As far as the gsr intake mani I dont believe it will fit... could be wrong but I know for a fact the ITR does and there is even a write up posted. I've heard that the ITR intake mani, the CTR intake cam and the b17a or otherwise known as 1st gen gsr exhaust side cam is a good setup for ls vtec so am guessing would be good performace upgrade for b16.
