the humor was that the conversation up to that point had been Colbert doing his usual ultra far right stuff and the poor congressman trying to keep the conversation within the bounds of reality. I think he was so relived when Colbert offered a debate that he took it. Then he was baited and switched and found himself in a pro feeding kitchens into wood chippers stance out of the clear blue. It was fucking classic

But the reason liberals don't see the humor is because they actually regard this show as real news...
 
Stephen Colbert is ultra-left. His schtick is to pretend to be Right and foolish / Brash / rude / off his rocker.

He was invited to the George Bush thing a while back by accident, he's so sublime about it.
