79Civic

is now Color Coated
so heres the deal, when it comes to hondas im very new at them, ive never really liked them untill now so im learning. so bear with me lol.

i have a 79 civic im doing as a street/drag project. and of course it needs an engine swap.

i want a DOHC vtec. thats my only requirments. but im not made of money.

i can get a h22 for half the price of a b18. so im learning towards a h22, but i have a few questions on it.

the physical size. how long is it, how tall is it, and how wide is it compared to a b18. is it about the same size? bigger smaller? what.

its got more HP but ive heard it weighs more, but im not going to run AC or power steering or any of that, just the basics to make the motor run. im trying to save weight here. so if i scrap all of that, is it still going to weigh that much more? i heard 60 pounds running all the power and ac, but like i said i dont know.

i plan on leaving the motor pretty much stock, headers, exhaust, intake, maybe a vtec controller and thats about it. 200+ in a 1000 pound car is already around the 12 second range.

so anyone have any opinions on this, will i be fine with the h22, or should i really try to find a b18.

or any other suggestoins? thanks guys, and i have my fire proof suit on just in case, but please dont flame me lol.

well ill keep it simple the b18 vs the h22a in the same car same driver the h22a will spank it hard every time, but the h22a is alot bigger than the b18

thats deff good to know, but how fast it is, is really the least of my worries lol. its a huge engine for this little car. my biggest worry is the size, hows it compare to the b18?

its alot bigger and you will have to do some super fabing to get it in there

damn, prob wont fit then, the b18 is hard enough to fit in there.

this is a i belive a b20 in the same car. and you can see how tight it fits as it is.

well the entire swap no matter what i put in there is 100% fab. thats the last thing im worried about lol. space is my only enemy right now.

it will fit but you will need to fab alot of stuff
I think he got the idea...

To the OP- I don't have exact measurements for you, but I think you can find some on Honda-Tech. Based on the picture in the thread though, I think you could fit an H22 into the 79 without too many problems. You are willing to cut/weld your own subframe mods though, so you should be ok.

thanks ill check out honda-tech too.
