B16 turning to B18 ? REbuid STOCK

well what i need for to change my B16a2 to B18c1 ? ive seen it's necessary to drill a little the gsr rods for to fit them , what it's all necessary what i need for to turn my b16a2 to a GSR , talking about internals? maybe crankshaft too? what i want not is to drill gsr rods, and i want not to cuy another aftermarket gsr rods..

i live in spain so here there's one only B18 block vtec (not gsr) but it's very expensive to get it .. then i will need crank and rods for to stroke it to 1.8 like gsr engine, right? and pistons of course, apart from that both engines are the same ,right? (talking about insternals block)..

imtrying to do it.. ! so what you means for block linebored? im sorry but i dont understand very well english and some words... thx!

b18c internals will not fit inside a b16 block, the deck height (hight of the block) is different between the b16's and the b18's, if you wanted to use a b18c crank you will need custom length rods to make it all fit, and most likely you'll have to notch the block too

because a B16B is a p72 casting just like the B18C* it has the same deck height as all the b18 blocks. the B16A has a shorter deck height. youd need custom rods/pistons/both to stroke B16A out with a B18 crank. and its been done. Tech43 has a kit to put LS internals in the B16A block, and it uses custom pistons with raised wrinst pins.

now if we are talking about a B16B block then yes the gsr/its/ls insternals will drop in.

well thats the thing no one really knows with the b16b what the internals are (length wise) its speculated that its a b16a crank (77.4mm) inside a b18c5 short block (deck height) the c5's stroke is 87.2mm the difference in stroke throw is (87.2 - 77.4 )/2= 9.8 mm / 2 = 4.9 mm

The b18c5 has a 137.9 mm connecting rod length, therefore for the 77.4 mm stroke crank to work within the B18C5 deck height it has to be 137.9 mm + 4.9 mm = 142.8 mm

so the b16b rod is estimated to be 142.8mm

if you calculate out the b18c's stroke with connecting rod length inside a b16 block the difference in deck height places the pistons outside of the top of the block by a couple of mm, and i think (i didn't really feel like calculating it all out) that you need a 132mm custom rod to make it all fit inside the b16a block

Actually, B16B internals are common knowledge... the B16B does have a 77.4mm stroke crank inside the normal B18 height block.

You can get a B18 crank inside a B16A block with stock length rods- you just need custom high pin pistons. There are a few companies that make stroker kits to convert a B16A to a B18's displacement. Crower is one of them.

thx! i was looking for to make aroud 250-280 (maybe 300hp?) with my b16a2 trying to stroke it with gsr internals and boost it but i think will keep it 1.6 and boost it!

You can make that much HP with any b series engine. Just turbLo it and wuallaaaa.

Tu Hablas espanol?

yes i do.. ;)..

ive seen some b16s making more than 300whp through.. my goal with my first build (i hope to begin it soon!) would be aroud 230-250 boosted of course..

lo hablo pero no soy boricua :D ajajaj just kidding..

For that power goal, don't spend the money stroking it if you're going to boost. You can easily drop over $2000 USD on the stroker setup, and the thin tops of those pistons do NOT lend themselves to long life with a turbocharger. 250-280whp boosted on a stock internal B16A isn't that hard.

thx for all replies.. ;) so i hope to rebuild my B16a2 soon and to learn more about tuning cuz in spain there isnt good tuners.. :S

Check out this stroker kit. I dont believe they are that expensive and come balanced with clearanced OEM Honda bearing set!! I have personally used Peak Performance parts and I can say they are great. This setup is pretty much for all motor however you can probably contact them to get different pistons if you are wanting to boost it. Peak Performance - ENG19KIT Honda B16A 1.9 Liter Engine Kit

looks they sell good stuff! but looks very expensive though...like i said..ill keep my b16a2 as 1.6 and will boost but before that..i hope to rebuild it soon!

I think the kit was like $1500-$1600 right around there. Which isnt bad for all that you are getting.

Very true, not bad for the price- but if you're going to turbocharge anyway, I would just spend the extra cash getting a nice turbo setup in lieu of trying to boost on pistons that have really thin tops.

yes..that's what i will do..

thank you guys..

PS.. i hope you help me when i rebuild my b16a2 ..im waiting for my hayness manual already..
