let me first start off and say I AM NO EXPERT. NO SHAPE OR FORM DO I CONSIDER MYSELF AN EXPERT OR EVEN A NOVICE. that being said...i am in love w/ the 90-93 accord coupe. but after reading many threads it seems that the accord is not the answer due to it being heavy. let me also say that...

1.) i want my car mainly for show(kits, head/tail lights, etc)
2.) but i do want performance (cold air intake, engine swap, etc)
3.) not interested in becoming a racer (seen enough crashes)

my question is..."can i be both for show and performance?" after reading all these threads i've been taking second looks like the 94-01 gsr and the 96-00 civic. they both look nice but they aint the 90-93 accord. i hate the gsr's headlights, the civic well its still not the accord. am i bitching too much? hopefully someone can shine the light on my lost soul. and if i could get any hints/tips on any modifications such as what is the first thing i need to consider(besides $$$) i do know if i want a engine swap i need to figure out that first so i can then know what i'm working w/. so what should i look at and how will i know it will fit? the k20, the b18, h22, etc. please bless me w/ ur wisdom. thanks

well you could always put the type r headlights in the integra, but anyways any motor honda motore will fit in your accord but if i was you just drop in the h22a it will bolt right up and you can even use your stock tranny simple swap

hey thanks, so it's ok to stay w/ the accord? thank god. as long as i aint tryin to be something i'm not which is a drag racer. so when looking for the h22a...dont wanna ask a stupid question but by tranny u mean i can keep my org transmission? excuse the lack of knowledge of lingo. and after swappin to the h22a what specs am i looking at? and what bout the obd0? is there a certain i need to go in besides first find the car. ur advice will not go unforgotten

yes if you have a 5spd tranny the h22a will bolt right up you dont even need motor mounts, as far as specs i guess you mean power the h22a hs 200hp 163 tork you can get them with 220hp but then it gets diffrent you wont to stick with a motor thats obd1 that will make it real easy. all you will have to do is drop it in and run a few wires for vtec. and all you need to buy is a ecu and motor

You can be both show and performance, but it's not going to be cheap. As far as motors go, the H22 and F22 are really your only choices. B16s and B18s don't have the torque to move the heavier Accord chassis, and K20/K24 swaps may be possible some day, but as of right now, noboby is making mounts for it.

You can pretty much just drop an H22 right in using the stock motor mounts. You can use the stock transmission too, but I'd recommend upgrading to the H22 tranny, as it's geared for better acceleration.

well, i guess i'm gonna do some more researching...checked ebay on the h22a it was bout 2gs w/ the ecu set plus trans...is that reasonable? or should i look at a savarge yard first? hey thanks for the advice. ok once the swap what then or what do i do before the swap besides save save save?

thanks for all the advice. so what have ya done to ya rides? is there somewhere where i can see them? what i've noticed what a lot of people do is not go the body kit route and pretty much kept them looking stock but increased the performance. i think it's rubbing off on me. thinking i'm just gonna go w/ the h22 swap, lip, cold air, change the odometer cover, diff tail/headlights(know it aint gonna help perform...i wanna look tight too haha). is there anything that i can do that will increase my hp and performance w/o costing me my right hand?

Honestly...not really...

Having a good intake, header, and exhaust is nice and it will add some ponies, but 4-cylinder motors just don't respond to bolt on mods like a big V8 will. If you want to go fast, you gotta spend some bucks, either on a turbo/supercharger or an N/A build...

I'd recommend boost myself.

ok, thanks...dont wanna ask a stupid question but if i do go w/ the h22 that is a v6 not a v4 right? is there a v8 i could put in my cb7? i read that some people even put corvette engines in cars(havent heard a honda). boost? is that nos? i really dont wanna street race just look good and make my car ride at its best. again thanks everything i'm learning is going past my expections. i even decided to take some shop classes at the local college after i get my BA this spring. wish me luck

No, the H22 is a four cylinder. It's actually the same size (in liters) as your stock motor. The difference is it has dual camshafts and VTEC. As far as V6s and V8s go, I'd say forget that. Honda does make some nice V6 motors, but in order to get one into your car it's going to take a lot of customizing and fabrication and going to end up costing you a shitload if you can't do that kind of work yourself. They don't even make any V8s (at least nothing that goes in any of their passenger vehicles) so that's a definate no go. If you were thinking like a Ford or GM V8, well yeah, it's been done, but for the money you're going to spend on it you might as well just sell your Accord and get an Impala or Crown Vic or something like that. Hacking apart an Accord to put a V8 motor in it will leave you thousands of dollars poorer and leave you with a car that's probably not going to be reliable, safe, or comfortable to drive on the street.

And when someone says boost they are referring to supercharging or turbocharging. Nitrous is a whole other story.

Oh, and by the way, there is no such thing as a "V4." Four cylinder motors have all the pistons in a line, so they're called "inline motors" or "I4s."

oh yeah someone told me there wasnt a v4. it's called inline since it's in a str8 row thanks for pointing that out. so many things to remember. ok gotcha so h22 only four cylinder...check. getting v6 or v8 bad idea...check. so looks like intake, swap, header, exhust. thanks. ok, anything else that may help like increase mpg? and oh yeah...i've done my research on turbos and supercharges. like for instance...

The key difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger is its power supply. Something has to supply the power to run the air compressor. In a supercharger, there is a belt that connects directly to the engine. It gets its power the same way that the water pump or alternator does. A turbocharger, on the other hand, gets its power from the exhaust stream. The exhaust runs through a turbine, which in turn spins the compressor. There are tradeoffs in both systems. In theory, a turbocharger is more efficient because it is using the "wasted" energy in the exhaust stream for its power source. On the other hand, a turbocharger causes some amount of back pressure in the exhaust system and tends to provide less boost until the engine is running at higher RPMs. Superchargers are easier to install but tend to be more expensive.

ok, so in plan english or from experience which is the way to go?

You can boost the Accord motor. You'll have lots of shiny parts to please the show crowd and plenty of performance to boot. It will cost a LOT less then a H22 swap also ;)

^Thats a vid at 10psi.

ok, say i dont go w/ the h22 swap now. i've heard that if i get an intake now i have to be sure it is one that i can upgrade so one day i do go ahead w/ a swap? am i making any sense?

My Accord

Hey there! You're not the only one in love with the 90-93 accord coupe. I myself own a 90 Accord Ex coupe. It was my graudation gift from high school! Besides the sentimental value, I've always loved this car. I've also souped it up but am not done with it. I strongly urge you to go with an H22 JDM engine like I have, the performance is huge! I also got the H22 tranny with it, ecu, wiring harness, starter, alternator, the whole enchilada! Plus a cold air intake, ceramic headers, ceramic downpipe, stainless steel exhaust piping and flowmaster muffler. As for show, a month ago I had it painted Gloss Black, slapped on some gloss black rims with the polished lip, painted the calipers red, blue projector headlights, carbon black tail lights and tinted all the windows! I'm glad you share the same passion I have for the 90-93 accord!! Let me know if you'd like to see my ride!

is there a way i can see everyone's rides for inspiration? and for the pure love of hondas? ok quick question, if the h22 is a 4 cylinder...what do cars such as the newer v6 accords do as for as swaps or are they just s.o.l.?

Here's my current ride, but it's nothing at all to brag about...

As far as your other question, they just don't swap. Some cars don't really need to be swapped. For instance, the 2003+ Accord V6 puts out around 250 hp, and it's available with a 6-speed manual tranny. There'd be no point in swapping that out for something else. Even the 98-02 Accord V6 puts 200 horse, and around the same for torque. I suppose you could try and swap it to a larger V6 from one of the Acuras, but it really wouldn't be worth the effort in my opinion.

hey it's a beaut. thanks that does make since, u have the hp w/ the v6 why swap. thanks

ok, again i'm not a jdm racer but what bout lambo doors? are they easy to install or will i need expert help?
