totaled 98 civic.. replacing front unibody,,

I am in process of replacing the front subframe to a 98 civic hatchback. I am just about to start the trim cuts to fit the new one, so far everythings going fine. I have done this before, and have been doing autobody work and fabrication for a long time.. but it also has been a long time since I have done this severe of a job.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the specs on the actual chassis of these cars. It would help a lot with getting this new subframe aligned properly. I will use the new fenders to help align it, as I tack weld it in place.. but I have not gotten new fenders yet. (project funds have ran thin atm)

heres the progress images: current stage is the cut1_civic image.

I know the companies that make frame machines like chief and mitchell have there books that have all the dimensions you would need. If you have a friend in the business also that has access to these manuals have him look up your car and photocopy that page for you or right down some of the dimensions. Or you can try contacting one of the companies and see if you can get a spec sheet somehow. Good luck. ;)

Just wondering where did you get that whole front subframe?? Is that a whole piece that was cut out of a recked car or a new one from honda??

Yeah, my old business partners are long lost now, or at least still.. so, I am trying to make due. I suppose more than my needing the specs for doing these jobs, is just having them on hand. Absolute dimensions of the subframe/chassis structure, measurements from one spot welded piece, to the adjacent one.. whatever.

Anyway, are you asking about that subframe because it looks so.. well, clean? Thanks, if so.. that is in fact just a cutoff from a wrecked civic, yes. I stripped it down bare, and scrubbed it down real good prior to fitting. Once all the welds are done, and smoothed out, I will repaint entire engine compartment. etc, etc, etc..

FYI, the cars I have shown are not for my own. They are strictly resale projects.

if you are reselling you will need a proper inspection and good luck gett full resale value out of a rebuilt title car

Oh.. you mean I cant just pretend it was never wrecked, and hope any potential buyer wont notice?

I know, been doing this for a long time. Though the title is not branded, I am fairly certain I still legally have to make it known. Either way, its just the right thing to do.

And I will get what its worth.

Thanks.
