We are replacing the D15B7 motor with a newer D16Y7. We are taking the intake manifold and fuel injection off the Y7 and installing the parts off the stock B7. Can we now use the ECU from the '94 Civic DX (the original ECU) with the new motor? I guess the old motor was obd1 and new one is obd2, but we did not get an ECU from the junkyard with the Y7 motor? Any info is appreciated.

you'll need the other ecu... try ebay. i am always seeing ecu-s (virgin) for sale for a decent price.

no you dont
you can use the intake manifold and dizzy off the d15 on the y7 use all your d15 stuff on the y7 block it will work ( D series to D series there all the same ) the only thing you might have to watch out for is the crank sensor witch there is a easy bypass trick heres the link
.:FFS TechNet : CKF Bypass Trick :.
theres a bunch of info on this link if you look around through it check it out and let me know how you make out

crank sensor

thanks for replying. the link you sent seems to say it is only for cars with obd2 ECU's. My car is an obd1 car, (94 civic dx) and we are installing a D16y7 engine block which I believe to be an obd2 motor. So with the ECU from the original car, do we have to do these mods to the wiring? Thanks

you might not have to........ put everything together using all your old stuff on that block start it up and see what happens
the d16y7 is a dx motor you might not run into the ckf sensor problem but you need to get everything together to find out what step to take next if you even have to

obd1 and obd2 are not interchangeable without a harness...the parts are but the electrics aren't. that's why i said just get a new ecu. they are 50 bucks at best. wayyy easier than switching the manifold and dizzy and then using the old ecu... that and the old mani he has doesn't flow at the same rate as the d16 mani does... don't mess with all that. just get a new (used) ecu. way easier and will save you time.

right on there are two ways you can go about it he's right too i have a couple ecu's if you need one ( P2P , P2N ) the p2p is vtec for the y8 and the P2N is not vtec it's the hx ecu

d16y7 motor

Hey wuz up guys.....i have a question about the d16y7 motor. I have a 1993 del sol and i just swapt a y7 in it. Now the y7 is a obd2 motor and my sol chassi is obd1. And then i was thinking if i swap a alternator, distributer, injectors, and ecu that are obd1. Will everthing fit no problem. Will the y7 run ok.

I have a P2E ECU out of a 00 DX Sedan *Automatic* If you need it, I'd sell it for $50 shipped to your door.
