93 Del Sol

New Member
Alright, as stated, I am having some gas mileage problems. I recently got a 1993 Del Sol....I dont know if it is a vtec or anything. The engine is a D16Z6....I have no idea about any of this stuff so all I know is that it has an automatic tranny and all the mileage i am getting is 240-255 miles to a tank of gas. Is this normal? If not what can I do to fix it? Thanks

I think that is normal. I have a 93 del sol si with the d16z6 engine and that is the same gas mileage i'm getting. The d16z6 is a vtec engine.

a freind of mine told me i was wrong..that my engine wasnt vtec.....so i was just all confused about it...will a new (complete from header to tip) exhaust and a cold air intake help the gas mileage any?

full exhaust and intake will hurt your fuel mileage, (more air in and out=more fuel in and out)
your fuel mileage sounds normal if you have a 10 or 11 gal tank, 25mpg is normal for an automatic z6 engine, and yes, the z6 engine is vtec, no matter what your friend says.
you can improve your fuel mileage a little by getting/doing a tune up including fuel filter, and putting in a new o2 sensor and resetting the ecu.

Well guys, I got under the car looking around and i noticed that the
cat had a hole in it bout the size of a quarter and the manifold has multiple cracks in it.....so i am gonna have to buy a whole new exhaust system from the header to the tip.

depending on your location you may need to buy an oem catylitic converter in order to pass state inspection or emissions test (unless you know someone) if not then just get a test pipe.
I recommend a good header, and oem or tuned exhaust for your car, I do not recommend a cheap header and a fart can welded on by some muffler shop. (automatics sound like ass with shitty exhausts)
I also recommend that if you plan on keeping the car for a long time then get a stainless system, they last longer.

well.......i got my new exhaust system......the header cat and the catback.....but the company sent me the wrong cat!!!.....lol...but it has already been sent back to get the right one....but yeah it is all stainless.....and the O2 sensor will be replaced.....is there only the one on the manifold? im not too sure on a lot of this stuff......i am hoping that this will solve the problem of my car "dogging" down when i try to get goin.....think it will help out?

also, i am planning to do a moderate N/A tune up on this engine.....any input would be appreciated.....such as what i need to do and if it would be worth the time....not looking to do a hard core tuner car....but just a little more zip when i hit the pedal

Go manual!

i intend too whenever the tranny goes out on this one.....but until then i am just gonna leave it alone....but as far as the engine goes........any ideas?

well, i got the exhaust system on.....and i have noticed a difference from the stock one...i will have to wait to see how it all works out

my z6 gets about 34 mpg. it's a manual, but shouldn't be that much different.

well........i have noticed that it has better acceleration......but the gas mileage still sux......i am getting like 20-23 miles to a gallon.......i thought honda's were supposed to be good on gas?....what else could it be?

check your timing. give it a good tune up. new plugs, cap, rotor, wires. check your air filter. it could be a multitude of things.

alright i will start checking things out on it.......i just found earlier that i am gonna have to put a new radiator in it also........sheesh...lol
