it stays in boost through the gears since the throttle body never closes. The wastegate opens when you hit the boost limit to not allow you to overboost and blow your shiz up, i think what you mean is the blow off valve, which opens up when shifting (releasing the air when the tb is closed during a shift).
thats a pretty sweet ride, i was contemplating doing that or a b20/vtec setup. I remember a few years ago there was a blue one with a b18c1 and it was teerrrboooooughed too.
