Hi, I still have questions about my 90 accord head swap. I have an non-VTEC head and want to swap it to a VTEC head. What head can I use for it? I have heard about H22 and H23 swaps, but need to know what I need and what am I looking at cost wise? Any help would be great.
Thanks

i didnt think you could get the h22 on the f22 block with out the block seeing the machine shop . I know for a fact that the h23 will bolt right up , but if your wanting vtec , put a poa head on there and call it a day , a whole lot less work , headache , and will save you some change in the long run , then i would put a h23 intake manifold on there then boost it !! youll be happy . but if you just want vtec and got a tight budget , go SOHC vtec , shouldnt cost no more than 250 -350 , depends on who you know

thanks. In your opinion, where is the best place to track down a SOHC VTEC head...in good shape

i have one with only 60,000 miles complete with cam gear vlave cover , for 250 , ill even throw the vtec oil pressure switch and solenoid in there , shipping is about 50 . let me know

I am doing the same thing on a 94 accord. I got the heads for 20 bucks. What head gasket do I use (vtech / non-vtec) and do i need to feed it oil through and adapter?

that is sweet. is there anyway you can hold it for me b/c when I get money, I will definetly buy it. By the way I am in Liberty, Missouri.

heads????? when does a four banger come with a set of heads , lol its only one head on all hondas !!!

where the hell did you buy a head in good shape for 20 bux , the head gasket should be a f22b1 vtec head gasket

its just sitting in the garage with the valve cover still on it , and the inside is looking almost brand new , not the dark brown golden tint like most of the heads on hondas , i ran nothing but full synthetic in it. doesnt need any mackine work or replacement of any componets, when you deciede to perform the swap i highly recommend a h23 intake manifold for the f22b1 poa head , your going to need a poa ecu , you can wire in the vtec or just buy the harness for 94-97 accord ex and what ever tranny you have ( manual , auto) . If you go with the h23 intake , youll see a little bit more power in the low to mid range , and take off imporoves alot !! especially if you plan on boosting later on ,

im not sure if your going for the sleeper look but i have a h23 intake manifold with all sensors and throttle body with the fuel rail and injectors, and the other things youll need is the prelude 92-97 thermostat housing which i have ! , fuel line vaccum line , heater hose and mutiple size barbed fittings , its not a hard swap . just one other mod to the intake is where the vtec would hit the manifld flange, which if your interested in the intake ill make the mod for you , the one i have has been ported . throttle body is at 72mm and. intake has been ported and polished . . or you can show your power and just spend 300 and get the skunk2 racing h23 prelude intake !! which mutilple mods are neccesary to complete the swap. but thats a whole different thread.

yea, head, what ever man.
I got them of a friend when he did an engine swap. The have under 100,000 miles.
The thing is, I don't know what head gasket to use. I know in the d series you knock out an oil plug and I might need to do that on the f series. This could be the difference in the head gaskets. I don't know where the vtec solenoid is or what it looks like so I dont know if I have one. I guess that i use the vtec distributor also.

if you have a 94 accord you have a f22 . now if your trying to vtec , then you need the vtec oil pressure switch and solenoid, i told you , you need the f22b1 vtec head gasket , it bolts right up no modification needed !!! you need the ecu and wiring harness , or just wire the vtec in !! if you have the distributor with the head then use it !! . Look on ebay to see what a vtec solenoid looks like . just seach vtec soleniod and there will be quite a few listings .

I already looked on ebay there is one. It is oddly listed as 95-97 not 94-97. It is from a 96 but it shouldn't matter. Where does that bolt to? What about oil? Do I need to take out plugs or run a line?

you need to start your own thread and stop trying to jack this one , ok

for a 94-97 use a standard gasket (same for vtec or non), a vtec distributor, vtec ecu, and run wires for the new sensors intro your existing plug on you non-vtec harness (you will need to add pins)
I still don't know about oil supply though

hey i have a buddy with a 90 accord f22, looking to swap in a f22 vtech, does anyone know where he can get the new ecu and wire harness or would we just need the ecu and wire up vtech separately? and does anyone know the cost of the proper ecu? any help would be appreciated. thank you.

I blew a piston thru my non-vtec F22 engine and have just replaced it with a F22B vtec engine. I used the non-vtec harness (that doesnt have the connector for the vtec solenoid) and it starts up just fine. I also ordered a chipped P28 ecu. Here's the issue, when i run the car on the stock ecu, it will run perfectly but will consume a shit load of fuel, idling is great, check engine light is on, and if i go over 5000 rpm, it tries to cut out. when i run i on the P28 ecu, the idling is really rough and it tries to kick in the vtec at 3200 rpms but the vtec solenoid is not connected. I then pulled a harness out of another junked accord and pulled out the vtec connection but i have no idea how to wire it into the P28 ecu. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP !!!

For those that have been searching for ways around the VTEC pressure switch adn the VTEC solenoid, I must say that I have found you the answer if you hadn't found one already. Just email me at my work address or my hotmail and i will forward you the file. Just getting used to this site so please bear with me. larry.turyagyenda@lakenheath.af.mil or mclarry01@hotmail.com just send any emails to both of them
