Hatchback Lover
I don't know a whole lot about cars, engine-wise. I do know that I love my little Honda Civic Hatchback. I just wanted to know if anybody had some tips for me about what kind of stuff I can do for cheap on my car. I have a High performance ACT Clutch and Pressure Plate, I have a Short Ram Intake in the front, Sway Bar in the front. I have a gutted cat, at least that's what the guy at the muffler shop told me (but I'm not supposed to talk about that) and a Z-power muffler (yeah I had never heard of it either but hell it sounds good.) I also had to have an entire new transmission put on the dang thing which didn't even stop the noise that the car was making (it's like a small grinding noise when you don't have the clutch pushed in, and no it's not the throwout bearing I replaced that also.) I also had to replace the distributor but it's not special or anything. I also have 17" BBS RK's on it which make it looks sort of like a Golf, lol. I know that my car is not fast, but not a lot of other people realize that. It looks and sounds like it should be fast so I'm always getting asked to race or people are always taking off at lights trying to challenge me. I really have the desire to modify my car, but anytime I have extra money to do something performance wise I end up having to spend it on something that has broken (the ACT clutch doesn't count it was part of the whole transmission change.) I would love to do an engine swap, but money is tight right now because I'm supposed to be getting married in October. Also my fiance's brother in law is going to give me his stock turbo off of his Eagle Talon TSI as soon as he gets back from Iraq and has enough time to do it. I was wondering if that was even worth all the modifications I would have to do in the engine compartment and finding an intercooler and all those other wonderful parts, and if my stock engine could even handle it. If anybody could help me out at all I would greatly appreciate it, alot of people have told me how great this site is and I hope that it will live up to its exceptional reputation.
Thank You,

you can find a d16z6 (single cam vtec) for fairly cheap.. that'll give you a little more pep than that sorry ass CX motor

Thanks

Thanks man, I went ahead and looked that engine up on ebay and saw them from 700-800 does that sound about right or should I look elsewhere. Also what other components would I need to look for for the swap or would it be a pretty clean switch? Yeah and about my engine I actually saw a spec on the stock horsepower that was available with the stock CX yesterday and almost cried, lol. But I really appreciate your feedback if you have any other tips or if anyone else does I would love to hear it.

Hmmm... that does sound good. Only thing is though that 500 quote doesn't include shipping. And I have heard good things about that engine. Would that just slide in or would I need new motor mounts, etc.?

yea it will drop right in and bolt right up even to your tranny but id probly upgrade to a si tranny or d15b vtec tranny.. but actuly i paid like 580 to my door for that motor you just have to talk turkey with them.

wow you only paid 80 bucks for shipping... how the heck did you haggle em that low? And the only thing about the tranny is that like I said I'm having to save up for my marriage, so scrimping together the money for the engine is going to be hard enough. Do you think that the tranny I've got would be able to handle it or would it be almost mandatory to look for a new one, like I said the one I've got is almost a brand new refurb from Greenleaf.

the tranny you have will be fine, the only diffrents is the si or d15b vtec has a little shorter gears, i used the d15b vtec with my stock dx tranny and no problems

had a crx but i sold it theres still pics in the for sale area of the motor. but its a super easy swap you can do it yourself in a few hours

well my fiance's dad is a mechanical genius and worked for the chevy delearship for 20 years and he's always talking about how he wants to work on imports so i might be able to recruit his help, cause like i said i don't know much about engines.

yea the turbo is a good ideal, for both the d15b and the d16z6

One other question if anybody else does run across this post. Would my new tranny and ACT Clutch/Pressure and stock flywheel be able to handle the Db15 with a turbo, or would I need to upgrade?

first i would have a little fun with the 8 valve cx... Put a d16Y8 head onto it, run vtec and have fun. this puts the compression up full, once your done you will think your car has a b series in it. that setup will last for about 2-3 months( because the high compression will get to the engine) anyway that you need

d16y8 head
d16y8 head gasket
P28 ecu

As for the D15bvtec, i have one in my 2000 civic. these engines respond real well to boost because of there lower compression. Do somthing like a ( buget boost ) you will not need to upgrade.
I will recommend you find a JDM Hydro ZC tranny or a D16z6 tranny
I will also recommend a P28 ecu tunned with chrome, contact me if you need one done, i have done a few of these and the map i use hasnt blown one up that i know of.
The map is good for 8-10 PSi and puts 230WHP for d15bvtec, D16Z6 and the D16Y8.

anyway, if you have any more questions feel free to ask, and to answer your clutch question, no you wont need to upgrade, my last one i used the stock clutch with:)

Wow thanks for the advice but I have one question. I found a new engine that a guy is advertising on ebay. It's from a 93 civic si hatch and I'm not sure if it would fit my car. If anyone would like to take a look the address is
any d series will drop right in and bolt right up

hondachick was talking about the P28 ecu but the ecu that can be bought with my engine is the p08. does it matter which one you use.
