Noob
Just got my engine back together and noticed I have no mass air flow sensor. Any particular one better then the other? I have only minor mods but my head has bigger valves in it and just got redone as well as a new head gasket, timing belt, alternator, starter, rear main seal, water pump etc.

I dont know if one of the "performance" ones are better or if I should just go with stock.

Its a '88 CRX si.

Thanks

Your crx is not a mass air flow metered engine. It uses a map sensor and a speed density system.

I can't find the name of that thing anywhere cause it has a different model listed in the book. If I remember right it is about the size of a dime or a nickel and it plugs into the intake tube and has a little pigtail that plugs into the (MAP?)sensor. Not really sure. I know when it is not installed the car gets really confused and does not know how much fuel to use so it wont idle. I have went to a couple of places and they are trying to sell me a Intake charge temp. sensor. I dont know if that is it or not. I found the map sensor last night on the firewall and nothing is plugged into it so I am assuming what I need plugs up into it.

This is the last piece I need to get this thing back on the road and if anybody can help me out that would much appreciated. Thanks.

There should be a vacumm line running to the map sensor on the firewall from the intake manifold. Also there should be a electrical connector plugged into it. The sensor in your intake tube is most like the intake charge temp sensor.

Ok thanks for the info man. That vacuum tube is what I am missing as well as the intake charge temp sensor but if I remember right I never had that other sensor installed. Really appreciate the help. Time to go get some new vacuum lines and I should be good to go.

Also I need to move the battery because the intake is in the way. Any brand of relocation kit better then the other? I was wanting a sealed system since it will be inside the car, thanks.

Im sure any relocation kit is as good as the other. If im not mistaken I think summitt racing makes a decent kit for a reasonable price.

Thanks for all your help man. The car is up and running like a champ. The throttle response is amazing and its got a lot better get up and go with the head work done. The idle problem was the map sensor. The thing was like $228 so I went to the junk yard and spent $5 on the thing lol. Also after bolting on the intake I forgot about the 10mm hose between the valve cover and the pipe itself and it helped out a bit also.

Once again thanks for all your help and a buddy actually had one of the summit kits so I am going to get it tomorrow and put it together this weekend.

I have concluded that the people at Gwinnett Place Honda in Duluth GA are just as noob as I am.^_^

Yeah most mechanics deal with bitch repair work. They are not always the best, but they think they are because there so called certified!
