ok a buddy and i are starting to build up ls motors for turbo. we have spare heads from an ls that we would like to build up. now the question is what valve springs and valves can we use to build it up some. My buddy is looking to get 300 hp to the ground and i am looking for something like 250 or so. i was thinking about type r springs and valves but i am not to sure what we can use. give me some insight on what we can use please! thanks guys

You really dont need to upgrade the valve springs just because you are making that much horsepower. You will need to if you are planning on reving quite a bit over factory redline of 7200 rpm, or if you are planning on getting some aftermarket cams. If you are getting aftermarket cams use the manufacturer's recommend springs. I dont believe you can use the vtec springs in the ls head but dont hold me to that. I would go with some skunk2 turbo cams and springs and retainers. Factory valves are quite decent but if you want new valves I would recommend Ferrea stainless valves. Either way have your head freshened up with new valve seals and valve job. Also have it checked to make sure the surface is straight still.

ok kool sounds good to me i am not looking to make a rev monster! but that sounds good i was going to take it to the machine shop to have it cleaned and stuff but i thought that new valves and something a bit stronger, but i guess keeping it like that is fine again i am looking for 250 hp

That should be fine for what you want, but definetly get a valve job done. They are inxepsenive and ensure you that you have the freshest engine possible. ;)

yeah thanks a lot i just got the head off and i am going to take it to the machine shop next week now aht should i tell him? give me a valve job and clean it up!

Yes, tell him to do a valve job. But before you drop it off stop by a acura delearship and pick up the valve stem seals, this way you know you are getting some decent shit. Then have the valve job done and have them check the surface to make sure it is still straight and within spec. If not have them surface it just untill it is in spec.

ok kool thanks a lot i am going to get some valve stem seals this week coming up should be to much i was able to get some for my v8 for 30 bucks and that included the little tool.
