So I've got an oil change coming up here. I have several oil concerns;

I've got 150 miles on it, and it's running really low on oil. I know that when I get on it, it will tend to consume some oil. But damn man.. 150 miles for 2 quarts ? Can I look forward to better consumption in the future ?

I'm doing a semi-hard break in, based on the break in article. I'm not hammering it (because I'm a first time rider) but I am taking the rpms up slowly and shifting as smoothly as I can.. the first day was a bit rough, but since day two I've even been better with that.

It's cold. And "Warming up" is a frame of mind for the first 4 days. It never got to full temperature until later this week when god turned the heat on.

But the oil continues to be consumed. I'm going to change the oil next (Before going any further) and replace the filter with a K&N. What should I use for oil ?

I have a 10w-40 marked "for bikes" with "superior wet clutch protection", but I also have a load of Royal Purple to combine with the K&N.

Should I do this now ? Should I do an oil flush ? Is this breaking in ok?

Oh yeah, there is. It gives me volumes (Which is understood) and then mentions "Motorcycle approved" oil. The dealer said 10w40, but Royal Purple is good stuff.

There's a lot of debate on if you "need" to use motorcycle oil or not.
search google for some info on it.

as far as 2 quarts. that seems high.
I'd check a kaw board. and see what they say, maybe that motor eats a lot on break in........ still seems high.
