advanced timing

i just got a 93 civic with a stock b20...the car has advanced timing...oh the take off at low rpms 1,000-2000 rpms...the car sounds to have trouble like it wants to die..starts making really low sound and pops...could this be because of the advanced timing??? what does the advanced timing do??? how does it benefit the performance???

The timing will cause low end power problems. I would make sure the timing is set and the factory specs. If your are unfamiliar with how to do it have a professional do it for you.

Is the cam gear timing adjusted or are you talking about the ignition timing through the distributor? Cam gear timing you should have someone do if you don't know what your doing, ignition timing is a snap and anyone can do it.
