Maybe this has already been covered here somewhere, but I can't find it.

I really want to supercharge my d16a6. I would love to hear some technical reasons why turbos are superior. One of the main reasons I want to go this route is that freakin everyone turbos, and I like to be different.

This is the Jackson Supercharger Kit for 1988-1991 Civic/CRX EX/SI currently listing for $1,949.00. It makes me horny.

well the sc takes hp to make hp where the turbo dont, you limited n psi with a sc but its instant power where the turbo will have lag

well if i completly build up mah d16z6 and get a 11:1 compresion and aftermaket internals can i put a SC an get some good power instead of turbo it??? thanks for bringing out the topic...

The jrsc is a nice bolt on if you plan on running lower boost levels and don't have extremely ambitious power goals. The jrsc replaces your intake manifold, meaning that the kit does not come with any type of intercooler (I know one company, LHT performance, makes one for $$$). At higher boost levels, the intake air heats up dramatically, making detonation more likely, and also yielding less power. Furthermore, I have heard from many sources that the kit's fuel management (or its excuse for one), isn't all that great even for its stock 6 psi boost level. Alot of people start with a jrsc, then sell it for a turbo. You don't see it going the other way very often!

For less money you could run a small t-25 turbo, and make simmilar if not more power.

Oh yeah, if you are planning on boost, an 11:1 CR sounds like a time bomb waiting to go off. People who go out of their way to build a motor for boost run much lower CR's (8.5-10:1)

Well, sure, I could almost find a complete car for less money. And if I had 2 grand falling out of my butt, I would have already installed SC.

Interesting about the fuel control though. Does anybody else make sc's? All I can find is Jackson.

Again, I'm not interested in making retarded levels of power. Of course, I want more...but I dislike turbos, and nitrous makes me nervous. Plus, I love the semi-stealth factor of the SC. It looks like most of it would be hidden between motor and firewall without all the plumbing a turbo would need...

Also, thanks to everyone for responding to my thread! Yay! Life is validated!

Whether you turbo or s/c its doing the samething to the engine. With 11:1 CR you will prolly need alky injection with either to be safe. I would go turbo, you can get the same response with more power and for less money. Just my .02

Vortech and Procharger make a centrifugal supercharger (like a belt driven turbo) kits for b-series cars. I havn't heard all that much about them except that they cost from 3-4k. I guess you could modify the mounting brackets to make it fit the d16, but that would be alot of work.

I found the Rotrex for $2,195.00! Holy crap! And you still have to figure out how to install it yourself....hmmmmm....

Vortech systems start at $3877.95! And the Prochargers go for $3,450.00! Well, at least those are complete kits w/ intercoolers, but damitall, they don't make them for the d16.

The Rotrex looks pretty sexy, though. Especially if I could run it without the oil cooling plumbing. Doesn't look much bigger than an alternator.

Dude you do this shit everywhere, make your own thread after searching keyword "SEARCHING". And if people want to answer your stupid questions they will.

Back on topic:
I prefer turbo, only because its free power so to say, it all comes from the air. Whereas the super runs off belts, taking power to make power.

My advice to you would be to decide whether or not you want instant response.

And like others were saying you could probably make the same power as a super with a turbo for a cheaper price.:D

You can get s/c like response with a properly sized turbo. The Accord would boost up as soon as I layed on the gas, my Matrix was the same way. Now with the larger turbo and the .63A/R it will finally have some turbo lag :p

Well yeah thats the truth.......
A small turbo spools faster, generating faster response.
A large turbo spools slow compared to a smaller one, resulting in lag.

well im just asking because mah friend just rebuild his gsr and raise the CP to 11:1 and he is gonna use a vortech PS...i already told him that was to damn high..but he says that he will do it alright..aint sure but i will see =whats the result and will let you know..

I have heard all the same responses as above. A super charger will take power to make power. Turbos use exhaust, so in essence it is "free" power. If you run a small turbo and boost low numbers the lag will not be that noticeable, but you will still have to wait for rpm. I guess it all comes down to whether or not you need boost at 1000 rpm or 2500.

OOOOOKKKKKK.............now go make your own thread.

11:1 compression while boosting is pretty rediculous in my opinion. That's just asking to blow a motor. I mean even with a good tune...you will still need race gas or alcohol injection in order to be on the safe side, if there is a so called safe side with that set-up.

Edit: Tell your friend to log on and make a thread.
