RETIRED
I miss 2nd all the time... even when i'm not driving hard. and its like impossible to shift nice and smoooth.

and today i ran into this:

CDV

WTF is this shit?

their quote is exactly the case...
But in practice, all it does is prematurely wear out the clutch and turn experienced drivers into people who, despite 20 years of practice, cannot shift gears smoothly.

god fucking damnit.

time to order that part.

I dunno b, looks like a pretty serious mod... you might wanna take it in to the shop...

like i'd do this myself? lol

still need to order the part :D

i'm due for an oil change pretty soon, so i'm going to get the part and have the dealer put it in. They are dinan certified installer, so i'm pretty sure they can pull it off.

"I finally realised why I suck at driving the M"

You're almost a year behind me.

i'm still waiting for you to put up or shut up.

i realized you would never do it the minuet i put the post up.

After the stock CDV is replaced with one of our modified units, you will be able to shift gears in your BMW just like a "normal" car. No more vague, inconsistent clutch engagement. No more jerky 1-2 shifts. You can actually chirp the tires when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear! Parallel parking becomes a breeze and your clutch will love you for it and last much longer. Best of all, your passengers will stop making fun of your driving skills.

$35 for the part, and $200 for labor :)

following E into work one tuesday, stopping off at watertown bmw. $0.
hithcing a ride with E to the office, working, and coming to pick up car after work: $0
oil change, inspection I, and CDV install, $500
not having to do anything remotely out of my way: priceless.

There is such a thing as too many features. Any feature that takes control away from the driver (ABS, Trac Control, Rev Limiter, Governor, Clutch restrictor valves that make you shift like a 16 yo girl...) is NOT something I'm interested in having on my vehicle.

a part of me wants to believe this...and another part of me says it's a BMW ricers scam. If your going to do it, then be ready to replace clutch disks at a faster rate.... all it is , is a restrictor added into the system, restrict the flow of the hydo fluid returning back to the res, and your feathering the clutch more than is needed...which causes more wear on the disk, and more heat. Drive a 4 or 6 puck disk setup, the faster it ingages, the snappier the driving....then drive a street disked car, and you will notice that it will take longer to grab....then shoot a lazer temp reader on the disk....heat and excessive wearing will trash disks like crazy, no heat, but yet a harsher "grab" will keep the temps down, and the wear to a minimum. Disk lasts longer.

First.,...before you buy....see if the real guys that drive BMW's in Germany are using anything like this professionally....if they aren't, then your just getting sucked into a scam that might not be good for the car.

in other words, $35 part, $500 to install, drive for 2 years and need clutch disk change that will cost over $1500 to do....or just learn to drive, drive for 4 years, and sell car for something better.

the disk is slipping more...

i guess you didnt read the article. the mod is REMOVING that delayed engagement valve.

BMW did it for 'smoother' driving, but if you know what youre doing, you look like an asshat when you drive. so now a company is releasing a valve that basically allows the driver to shift like its a normal car without that gay ass valve.

actually, just the opposite.

the disk is slipping more...

no, WITH it, it slips more.

if your left foot can't feel the pressure, then you don't deserve a shifting car. Learn to drive.
