Oh, I do a little here and there.
Hey everyone I'm new to the honda world I'm 16 and I just bought my first car - a 1993 honda civic dx sedan 5-speed with air intake, headers, exhaust, 17" rims and low profile tires and a couple of other goods.

I need to be pointed in the right direction..My HP goal is 300-350 whp in the long run but I'd like to break 200 hp within a couple of months. I have the stock engine, a 102 hp d15b7, and I want to swap in a 160-170 hp JDM b16a DOHC VTEC (1992-1995) engine. www.tigerjapanese.com is where I want to buy it from but I have a few questions:

1) Do these JDM spec engines come with everything needed to take out the old and throw in the new? If not, what else do I need?

2) Could I keep my d series tranny and put in the b16A or should I buy the engine with a transmission?

3) When buying parts for my civic like a catback exhaust system, should I buy one made for my car/body style and year or buy a system made for the b16a?

Thanks for any help I appreciate it a lot!

D series tranny will not swap.
Hmotorsonline sells complete JDM b16 SiRII swap for that car.
Best bet is to get a custom exhaust made at your local muffler shop

AWESOME, that's what I'll go with most likely. The b16a with 5-speed tranny from tigerjapanese comes with everything that one has except the axles/axle shaft. That one from hmotorsonline comes with 5-speed tranny right?

hmotors will sell you everything to make the swap work just tell them that and they will sell it to ya

Alright well...I've looked around on the forums and read a lot of posts about d series engines making serious power. The main reason I want a b16a swap is for 160-170 hp, dohc, and vtec (as opposed to my 102 hp, sohc, non-vtec) so I could throw on a bolt-on turbo and make over 200 hp. So I've got more to ask.

Would it be cheaper/quicker/easier to build up my d15b7 for speed or would it just be that much easier to build HP with a b16a swap?

A bolt-on turbo and a catback exhaust system are the first 2 parts I want to buy (hoping to have them by the time summer's over). So...would it be better to throw them onto my d15b7 or to go with the dohc vtec b16a?

The arguments that d-series non-vtecs can kick some ass and then that d-series engines suck and dohc is the best make it a harder decision :). I wanted to just turbocharge my d15b7 but then I heard a couple of civics with vtec engines and I just loooove the sound of vtec! But I'd rather stick with mine for budget reasons IF it would be practical and not too expensive/hard to run a lot of HP. My goal in the long run is 400-500 HP (10-11 sec. 1/4) but really I just want to run at least 250 soon. Thanks you guys are a lot of help :).

400 to 500 hp...ha...your talking about some MUCHO DINERO to keep this thing running
youll need all new internals
bigger injectors
supercharger
turbo at 10psi

you might be able to reach 500 with all that
but....there is no telling how long that engine will last
i give it a couple runs before it blows!!!!

get the swap from hmotors and build the head port and polish cams, vlave and spring set and some arp head studs and you should be happy with the power it makes. Remember your 16 and its prob gonna be a daily driver you put to much money into it and its gonna cost to much to maintain it. If you want more power later build the blocka and boost it or put a 50 to 100 shot of nitrous. If your gonna boost on stock internals it can handle it but i dont recomend going any more then 7 or 8 psi. If you build the block i would recomend not going much more then 18 psi for daily driver. AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT PROFESSINALLY TUNED DONT BE A FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

400-500 HP is my long term goal I'm talking quite a few years before that. 250 is really what I'm going for for now. I should be able to get 250 from 8 psi on stock internals, right? I'm asking if it would be easier/cheaper/quicker to get my d15b7 up to 250 hp with a bolt-on turbo or if I should just get the b16a swap with a turbonetics bolt-on turbo set at 8 psi and tuned. And yes, it is my daily driver.

But I'm not stopping until I AT LEAST have a bolt-on turbo and catback exhaust I mean I have to smoke these 5.0 mustang rich kiddies that think they're all that cuz their daddy bought them a mustang ;). I mean come on, they laugh at hondas!

i have heard alot about the internals not holding up to 8psi or more of boost in a d series engine from the ppl around augusta...just with a turbo i doubt youll reach 250 coming from a 100hp engine..your not going to jump 150 just from a turbo

Bseries bulletproof..
i you plan on turboing...go with a bseries..it will last alot longer than your d

Take the d series out and get a bseries dosent matter what one they are all good engines just make sure it is the same obd1 (relieves headaches of wiring). You would spend to much on the d series to build it to 250 hp. I am working on an ls-vtec right now and its gonna be all motor. Lookin for bout 220-250 off built internals and built gsr head.

Awesome looks like I'm getting a B :). Then a turbonetics turbo kit with a catback exhaust and some ignition components. I was hoping there was a cheaper way with my D..lol I need a better paying job it's hard pimpin a car makin minimum wage. Thanks :). Gave ya some rep.

Stay with obd1 its the easiest to work with!!!!! you Got to get a tranny to dont forget that (i recomend a gsr tranny). Gsr tranny is a good all around tranny. Ls tranny is way to long of gears powerband will be robed of power. B16 is good as well but gears are very short. But since your turboing do not use b16 Tranny. On turbo cars alot of ppl use the ls tranny dont no a specific reson but just for ur info!!!!

If you use the ls tranny with the 4.7 final drive it has comparable 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th but the 5th is taller which is nice for highway cruising.

Whoa now getting into the trannies...I'm just buying a 92-95 b16a SiR II complete changeover that comes with a 5 speed tranny I just wanted to know if the obd is the same...it's a 92-95 model engine so it should be the same, right?
