Planning on turbocharging my 6th gen Accord this summer and need to know what you guys think of one of the following kits, or am I better off piecing one together on my own? the engine is an F23A1, the transmission is the 4spd automatic (wanna do a swap but cant find a 5 spd locally) here's the kits I'm looking at:
Turbonetics Import Turbo Kits
DRAG Drag Turbo Kits
 
The turbonetics kit comes with the ability to tune the injectors while the Drag kit looks like it has an FMU. FMU = teh lose :(

I honestly wouldn't get either. Get the manifold, turbo and piping(exhaust and turbo pipes), OBD2->OBD1 conversion harness and a socketted ECU. Then tune the car yourself using Crome/Neptune etc.....You wont overspend on parts that are worthless and you wont be paying for the convenience of packaging it all together in a kit for you. This is if you're handy :)
 
yeah, I've been thinking about piecing a kit together, however when it comes to manifolds, is there a certain design to them that you would recommend as being superior to the other?
 
Longevity - cast or titanium

It really depends on your power goals otherwise. 300whp and under could use a log mani no prob.
 
FMU is not a total bad thing. I run FMU for 2 years at 8psi setup. make 190whp f22b2 for 2 full years problem free. you just have to watch your setup like 2nd nature :) even narrowband ("useless") gauge can be handy to make sure FMU is engaging and keep the motor rich.

were you able to get any higher than 190 whp?
 
With an FMU you're limited in choices and like you said yourself you have to make sure it's always working. When I had it on my Accord I would lightly boost up until the FMU kicked in enough fuel, then lay on the gas. I'm not saying it cant be done but with the money invested in the FMU you can chip your ECU and run 6-8psi on your stock injectors without an issue.

Another note: When you chip the car and it knows it's going to be boosted it runs ALOT better. It was a night and day difference between the FMU and a chipped ECU. I will NEVER use and FMU again :)
 
Well I'm doing more research, learning compression maps, and piecing together a kit, one of my friends is heavily biased towards uberdata, is the difference in ECU chipping software merely user-preference or is there some performance difference as well?

Uber and Crome are VERY similar. People tend to like the idle functions of Uber better, which I can understand after tuning with Crome. I can NOT get the idle to be super smooth all the time with Crome, other then that though its awesome. Specially since you can chip your ecu for $20 and the software is free.

After ditching that FMU and getting a chipped ECU you'll wonder why you didnt do it sooner, honesly. I've been down both roads......
