Is there enough material on a TB to have it ported and polished? 2ndly would it even be worth it if I had the head and IM ported?

ive heard of lots of people boring stock TBs
not sure how far you can go on it though :shrug2:

I can make your GSR or DOHC Civic Si throttle body to 2mm over ITR specs

Rock on... Maasey...you just keep busting nuts of info all over my threads.

the problem with boring out the TB, is that, unless you change the betterfly itself, its fucking worthless.

A- you bore all around but leave the butterfly XXmm. you create a bottle neck effect, and still won't flow any more air.

B- you bore the whole thing, including the area about the butterlfy. You will kill your gas mileage, and idel at like 3k cuz air is constantly going in.

C- you do it the right way- buy an aftermakert TB that is oversized all the way through as in B, and includes an oversied butterlfy valve as well.

ya it looks like he does a real nicejob and he says he replaces the butterfly with a new correct sized one so thats cool. also a good alternative for those on a budget that dont want to spend 300 on a TB. Good find Maasey

and also, wouldn't boring the throttle body without port matching the intake manifold kind of cancel each other out?

Well you could port the TB and taper it.

A tapered intake path will create higher intake velocity at the sacrifice of quantity. The result is peak torque and volumetric effeciency occuring earlier. (Intakes for example would be the comptech Short Ram, the Iceman, and the J's).

However, you have to size the TB, the IM, to your powerband and engine package. You can just go opening up or going larger and expect huge gains if you don't have the cams and compression to back it up.

Don't worry about the TB until you have done some internal work.

True, you really need the ability to absorb the extra volume before you really get anything out of this. Even Oscar Jackson was only able to gain 1.something Hp after many dyno pulls with an oversized TB on one of his kits. Port matching the intake manifold to the head always helps...but again, is the cart before the horse in your case. I would get the cams, springs, and Hondata before you go there. My .02

Would noobs see that too? Anyway, I was looking for someplace to port my b16 tb for me and found my old thread here. The link doesn't work so I went searching and found a place that does it for $255 "stage two" porting and bridge narrowing.

Honda Performance - KMS Engine Development

Any good? I'm really not planning on modding the car much anymore, but I may tinker with a few things here and there.

I just had some problems with KMS and I read on the forum others have had problems too. Just a warning to stay clear of them.

the smoother the surface the better the flow. port matching and polishing all components will help.but becareful at the throttle body.this could create problems for you. You can smooth out the bore and even match the throttlebody to intake diameter but trying to add a larger plate may be more trouble than its worth. an aftermarket throttle body with a larger bore has been flow tested and designed for idle and rpm range.keep in mind more air requires more fuel and spark. you don't want to create a lean problem that your factory ecu injectors ect..... can't compensate for. this could be bad for your engine. anything you change out of factory specs is going too change something further down the line. just a thought. ak

Maxbore.com throttle body boring service
Overbore

my b16 TB was done 66-64mm at overbore.com by the previous owner..

ah! I recognize that max bore place. Thanks eg. You the man.

I think once the Credit cards are paid off I may go for an IM and have the TB portmatched to it.

(I know I've asked this before but I suck at remembering things), I've been looking at Skunk2 b16a IMs. Any other recommendations in that price range (they're about 300+ shipping).

If you're gonna pay $255 why don't you just buy a new throttle body that's already the size you want then get a im to match. this site that I use to get most of my skunk2 products from are usually the cheapest skunk2 retailers, Skunk2 Racing Intake Manifold Applications

and they also have the IM for $242.59

and if you listen to this guy^^^^^^^ you will be a ricer too j/k

make sure to upgrade the butterfly like sol said, or just be mad tye jdm and go itb's

I didn't want to pay 255 that's why I posted the link and asked for opinions. Thanks again EG for finding that link for 100 to have it ported.

There's a thread on HT that is 5 pages of vouches for the guys work.

ITBs will not be the way I go. lol

If you send it to the link eg6 provided, he builds you a new butterfly valve to fit what he ported it to.
