anyone here bought any tools from Harbor Freight? they are having a nice sale going on and im looking at getting a few items. namely a chop saw, air ratchet and an angle grinder. i wont be using the tools all the time but it would be nice to use them when i need them. anyone had any luck with their tools?

Harbor Freight usually has some good shit.. my floor jack if from there and its a heavy duty sum bitch

Yes, I go there a lot. The quality control of the stuff usually sucks, but you can take it back and exchange with no hassle. I prefer going to Northern Tools but, when you're broke, Harbor Freight is fine.

98% garbage. Dont buy anything electric. I got a die grinder from them once, its almost as good as my campbell and hausfield (sp?) from wal-mart. Yeah, almost.

Sears/Craftsman FTMFW. Not super uber expensive like matco or snap-on but it they carry the same warantee. (if not better, your snap-on breaks you have to get ahold of your local representative, blah blah blah)

well like i said, im not going to use them all the time. i know you get what you pay for but what im going to use them for is for small stuff. and the stuff im going to be doing with them (making brackets to hold up air valves and other small stuff) on my truck so they dont have to be hardcore.

+1 on don't get anything electronic from there.

I have an aluminum race jack from there, it is the scariest thing i've used. I barely have enough confidence to jack the car up and let it sit in time for me to put jack stands under the car. LOL. hasn't failed yet, but when you pump up, the handle will rise and the jack sinks until the handle is straight up, then it will actually hold. lol.

I also have an impact wrench from there. This was the best $20 ever spent. I've had it for 4 years, never oiled or greased it, works like a charm! :)

right on. i bought a gravity fed paint gun from there the other day. i hadnt had a chance to use it yet but my ex-room mate has one and swears by it. im also looking at getting a media blaster (sand/glass bead blaster) as well. when i was in there, thats when i saw the sale on the stuff and was wondering.

That's where I get a lot of my tools, B. My big ass diagonal cutters. Got them there. These things will chop through a 25 pair cable in one shot... until my brother started cutting a fucking fishtape with it. lol

I need to stop by there after I get paid to get a new pair. 2 bucks FTW.

Hmm.. I need to buy an engine hoist.. might stop by there this weekend :p

I bought their 14" chop saw and it works great, i also bought there air die grinder kit and it has worked out well. Only down fall IMO is that their shipping is slow, they ship by the trailer.

Most things from HF aren't bad for the price... A Buddy bought the $179 welder... It died after like 3 weeks... called them up, they sent another one right out to him..

Another friend uses their Die Grinders... Pays $20 a piece for them, and they last him 4-6 months of 3-5 times a week usage, grinding welds...

I buy stuff from there from time to time... If I had one locally, i'd buy all the time.

I had a harbor freight stool and I swear it was like an inanimate object on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I have never ... EVER ... had something so simple .. EXPLODE.. IT failed so bad, there were pieces everywhere. I'm surprised I didn't see flames popping out of it.

So a pneumatic adjustable stool had the most catastrophic failure EVER. And the thing was so new it wasn't even dirty.

My aluminum jack I got from there makes "pinging" noises. Jack the car up, then loud "ping ping ping ping ping". Sounds like it's coming from the return springs but I don't know for sure. It doesn't drop or anything.

I love harbor for buying tools I already have or tools I'll use once every 4 years.

DO NOT buy HF stuff for your only tools. I have no clue how many tools I've broke to date. Their tools are about as strong as they cost.

Again not bad if you're buying them for a 2nd set. just don't trust them.
