Newbie Power
im working on a hatch back project and im looking to swap the engine to a b18c5 or a spoon tuned b18c and i wanna try to put a 6 speed tranny in it, if its even possible and later on when i get the money i wanna turbo it. and im wondering what kind of ecu should i run. i also wanna put 4 wheel disc's on it so im also wondering what kind of axles to run. and these mods are just gonna get the project started. also this is my first project of this kind so if you can give me all of the information possible.

i guess ima havta look over some k series swaps it might be the best thing to being that those engines do put out more power but will i still have room to turbo it if i go with the k20a r?

PM me with what car you have and I'll give you a run down of what you need and YES a turbo will still work on the K in a hatchback. Good choice of motors!!

thnx to onesikdb8 and custom painter with all the help so far :D ill keep everyone posted when i get this project rolling i gotta start saving money for the swap because in my mind that is what needs to be done first then ill worry about the rest of the body components and the turbo later. and if anyone is selling a 95 hatch si let me know ill be browseing the itrader add's for the next few months :D
and thnx again to you 2 to help me realize the potential of a k series engine:ph34r: now its time to get to getting all the reasourses together and if any of you wanna know what i have planned for the body let me know^_^

if you limit yourself to 1 year and model you are going to have a hell of a hard time getting the car. look for a 92-95 hatch and be open to any model.

set some hp goals, set a budget, and we'll help you get there.

haha yeah i noticed that last night while trying to find a 95 si hatch:( but since im getting the k series my budget sorta went out the sunroof. the only reason i want an si is because i didnt feel like converting from drums to disc's and at least as far as i can remember i thought the si was the only one that came with 4 wheel disc's. and again i would like to thank all of you who helped me soo far with my project i cant wait to finish it and show it off to you fine folks.

well hopefully i can keep the car nice but heres all the mods planned for the car and maybe not in this order.

1.im going to do the engine swap(coz its almost the most important thing of all)
2. if the car is not black already im going 2 paint it black (get some real cheap 5 spoke rims hopefully black)
3. a little bit of engine work like fuel rail intake manifold cam's and cam gear's along with throttle body and all that other good stuff.
4. smooth out the body by getting rid of the rain gutters and the side bumpers in the middle of the side of the car.
5.take care of the suspension & everything that goes along with it
6. upgrade to a big brake kit
7. intercool & turbo the engine and then take care of the exhaust from the headers back
8. after i got all the other odds and ends taken care of ill finally finish up with the body. here's some pics i grabbed off the net.

stay away from shit that wont make your car faster or improve the reliability.

Don't get a fuel rail and throttle body. work on the basics first. i/h/e. get a good header, not dc sports or shit like that. get something like rage or smsp.

leave the rain gutters, they are there for a purpose. only shave it if you are making a show car. it's really hard to clean up the body lines. eg hatches look great to begin with.

you don't need big brakes. it's a waste of money. you will NEVER EVER EVER drive your car hard enough to need more than brembo blanks with hawk pads. EVER.

If you are going to turbo it, don't waste money on cams and all the other shit. decide now if you are going to stay NA or go turbo.

don't get big wheels, they will slow you down and inhibit turning radius. don't get gay fenders. they dont' line up right and look like shit. don't get the taillights, they leak and look ugly. stock are best by far. don't get the headlights. they wont look that good and fit bad. get some hid's or something for the stock lights.

:( :( :( :( :( hehe i see what your saying very valid points. i got lost some where in my head for the overall goal of my project. so your saying scratch the kit lights front and rear and just upgrade the brakes and pads. if im going to keep the stock fenders and stuff i will at least smooth out the sides because ive done it before. keep the rain gutters. and all the money i was going to put into the body put into the engine and turbo. most of the parts i want to put on will probably be skunk2. im a little bit lost for what kind of turbo to run. and for the rims go nothing bigger then 16's. hehe im just glad you took it easy on me:D and i hate to say this is my first project of this type. i had a 94 integra ls a few years ago but i sold it. i did put lights front and rear on it an had no problems but i guess ill have to listen to the more experienced on this one. thnx again.

well, you can do whatever YOU like. but just understand, when you do stuff like taillights, people will talk shit. if you are fine with that, go right ahead. as long as it's what you like. I just like the stock look.

just figure out what your priorities are. if you want to go fast, we can help you. if you want to be "flashy" then we can help you show off to the ladies. most men give fast cars more respect than having body kits and big rims.

we'll just help you spend towards your goals and keep you on track.

:D haha thnx for keeping me on track. and yes my goal is to go fast......really fast so my 2 main priorities are the engine swap and the turbo. my other goal is to make the car as light as possible. after the engine swap is done i want to take care of the suspension unless i dont have to worry about that till after the turbo and i atleast know enough to say that if you cant put the power to the ground then what good is having all that power. and like i said before ive never owned or tuned a eg. i do agree that the stock eg looks sweet and if you have any advice for what type of turbo to run let me know. again i would like to thank you guys for all the help.

i would suggest a simple t25 turbo on an ls swap. it would be cheap, and give you the pep you are looking for. also, remember that when you go fast, you need control and stopping power. you can get the brembo brakes and pads for less than $200. don't cheap out on suspension either.

but you are on your way to a good car if you don't just go spend a lot without thinking it over.

lol right on ............... hey guys
hey kid if your so worried about those disc brakes just take them out of an integra you can swap the whole rear end in about 30 minutes they match perfect

now on something else you said you wanted a six speed k series is the only way to go to get that your going to have to get a drive train from a rsx type S for that (big money ) if your on a budget and you want a turbo and a fast car for less go LS turbo as get_nick has said
it will run you around 3g's on the high side but i've seen it done cheaper
now a k series swap LOL........ try close to 6g's maybe more unless you know some one then you might get hooked up

o-yeah and dont forget the turbo for the k series another grand to 15 hundred
it will cost more than that, you have to make a whole bunch of custom shit.

but you can definitely build a fast ls-turbo. if you do the b18b first, you might be happy with that and just bolt ons. but the turbo can be done for pretty cheap.

The guys are right. Don't waste your money on cheap parts that do nothing for performance and just make you look like a ricer. It's good to see that you're taking the advice in stride and actually listening to it. Just plan your goals for your car and get the proper parts to help you get there. It's usually cheaper to do it right the first time. Good luck.

:) thats one thing i learned from when i was a kid you gotta listen to the more experienced. and money really is no option. luckily things are going my way and i got a good job as a laborer i make almost a grand in a week. my overall goal is to have one the fastest cars on the streets here where im at. coz like you guys said in the previous posts spend the time and money on the right parts. one of the things i see around here is all to common are those toybox bolt on sup up's. luckily one of my friends is a welder so putting the engine in wont give me too many problems and my dad has been worken on cars since he was my age. so even though this is my first project of this kind but i have to start somewhere. and making custom parts is no problem just as long as i know what to do to get there ill get it done. i cant thank you people enough for helping me with this project because know i have a good idea of what im going to do. after i swap the engine in(found a k20a type r with trans, axles and everything else for $5500) im going to put a skunk2 full coilover suspension. i also have another buddy that does exhausts so im going to get him to run me some 3" pipe back to a skunk2 cat back rear section. around this point im going to purchase some 16" spoon rims. then save up some money so i can turbo the engine.
