I think that the Z6 oil pump flows better. Might want to look into it. I'm pretty sure the y series oil pumps suck and that's why they spin their rod bearings more easily than the z6. Would be a cheap upgrade and good insurance.

i also have heard the same but i still to this day have not found one other persone who used a z6 oil pump on a y8 block . i mean will it even work?

Go to d-series.org those guys are the kings of d series engines and making them run better. I'm pretty sure its there that I saw the y series engines have crappy oil pumps and the z6 would be better. D series block is a d series block. Z6 oil pump should just bolt right up.

i dont have a oil problem. upgraded fuel pumps arent always good. i was just wondering if u can put a z6 oil pump on a y8. b.c to my knowldege you cant.?

Sure you don't have an oil problem but its good insurance. I don't have an oil problem with my b18b but I put a type r oil pump on it anyway.

y7 head on y8 block

my friend has a 98 4-door with a y8 block with a y7 head with a garrett t3/t4, and all he has is 440cc injectors, a block guard, and arp head bolts and it runs a 12.8 on 12 p.s.i. so i was wondering if its really worth puttin all the work into it if i could just do that, and have a dependable ride?

hell yea it is dude that ceap money with a built motor

the z6 pump will fit but there will be no place for you to put a oil dipstick. like the other guy said check out theoldone.com. i used there advice on ther oil pump and i have not had a problem. (knock on wood)

also how much power you shooting for? i think a 35r maybe alittle too big. your not going to get much higher than 425 stock ports anyway.

im shooting for about 350 400 hp. alot of ppl i no have used 35r's are there set ups on about 15 to 30 lbs of boost. thats my range for this motor

no reason to use a 35r for that amount of power. 50 trims make more than 350. i would go with a gt28rs if you looking for that amount.

You are going to need bigger injectors then 330cc. You should go ATLEAST 550 cc with that type of build. Also the gt35 will be pretty laggy on a d16. You should go with a 50 trim or the gt28 like stated above and you will get better spool characteristics and you should be able to hit your goal.

thanks for the info guys. keep shooting it out im eatin it up. im just going buy on this build what i have seen work for ppl. but listin to every ones advise doesnt hurt at all..

just curious but why would you run a y7 head on a y8 block? what happened to the y8 head? Also dude I don't know about the z6 oil pump in the y blocks, but I am thinking if you really wanted to upgrade the oil system in anyway couldn't you just port the oil pump to improve flow a bit. Also I have heard of some guys running toga performance oil pumps. But the dude is right the y oil pumps suck. I was running an NA y8 with a cai, and a cat-back, and spun the rod bearing. It leaked oil but when it happened it was a quarter or a half quart low.
